Columbite
stock #7FE-190
Golconda Pegmatite district, Governador Valadares, Doce Valley
Minas Gerais,
Brazil
4.8 X 2.3 CM (small cabinet/large miniature)
price: $450
A single blocky well terminated crystal with very good lustre. Good sharp Columbites are not common and since its a very brittle mineral there is often lots of damage. With the high prices of Columbium, few good crystals survive now. This is from a find in the 90's Far better than average, very sharp with the termination complete and undamaged. There are a few natural cavities and pits on some faces, undamaged except at the base area where it was removed.

Esthetics! Nov. 2009
A striking, large cat's eye crystal with a distinctive termination. Excellent condition overall, the fibrous base section grades to a glassy prismatic form. Backlighting reveals the green gemmy transition zone in the top section. This would cut a large and fine cat's eye gem but it would be a shame to destroy such a well formed crystal. Great eyecatching form, it is not just typical elbaite! A fine addition to a gem crystal suite.

Esthetics! Nov. 2009
A very fine and super esthetic piece! The apatite is doubly terminated, pristine with a light purple color, perched on deep green elbaite. The tourmaline is terminated and undamaged except at the base where it was removed. Otherwise perfect all arround, this is an excellent value in a pretty pegmatite piece.

A fine zoned green gem crystal with a remarkable and rare termination. This looks like a reversed scepter as the inner termination rises above the base prism. Very sharp and clean, there are some very tiny chips on a few edges but not distracting at all. Pretty much all gem with green color ranging from yellowish to a deeper bottle green color.

A fantastic and really different Tourmaline! This is a huge fat crystal the top gemmy termination of which ranges from a rich indicolite blue to deep bottle green. The crystal is zoned and the middle is a fine cats eye - light green and the base area is a deep nearly opaque green. The flat termination of the top is glasslike, and has several sharp triangular cavities epitaxially oriented on it. This is a very unusual tourmaline, and the addition of several lepidolite crystals adds a bit of contrast. The condition is good overall but some minor chipping is visible from some views its not distracting on a crystal of this size. This would likely cut some fine and large cat's eye gems but that would be a shame!

Deep gemmy green crystal with very unusual termination much like a Dunton mine, Maine but still distinctly different. The crystal is a flattened prism and the display side is relatively clean of damage (micro nicks of no real significance) the back and base have contacts and removal damage but it still displays well. It is a good gem crystal with a different look than any I have seen from Golconda.
