Brazilianite with Cleavelandite
stock #8.1-284
Telirio Claim, Linopolis, Divino das Laranjeiras, Doce Valley
Minas Gerais, Brazil
5.7 x 5.4 x 3.7 CM (cabinet)
price: $2600
new year 2021

Large, textbook perfect and lustrous Brazilianite from the find in 2009 at Telirio. This is a cluster of fine, green to yellow colored Brazilianites with the largest crystal 4.5 CM tall and relatively thick. The condition is perfect and the specimen can display well from several angles. Most pieces of this find were the more common slender habit but there were a few that had this fatter form looking more like the very early finds decades ago. This piece has that form and the crystals are all fully transparent. In person the color is a bit more vivid and with super glassy luster. Sourced in Brazil at the time of the find from the late Dr. Luis Menezes. Luis was an amazing mineralogist and the man responsible for many of the greatest Brazilian specimens for decades.

Brazilianite - classic Northeastern USA
stock #AX-KR-032
Chandler Mills Mine, Newport
New Hampshire, United States
7.1 x 4.6 x 2.6 CM (cabinet)
price: $750
new year 2021

This locality produced some important phosphate minerals, including Brazilianite, long before it was first found and described from Brazil. While not like some of the best Brazilian pieces, this small mine produced what are probably the very best specimens that did not come from Brazil. This is one of the best pieces I have seen in many years from here. It is richly covered on both sides with well-formed crystals in several habits. The largest are over 1.6 CM and quite blocky, most being exposed well from the matrix. There is a second generation of tiny Brazilianite crystals between many of the large prisms, these are transparent and lustrous, the larger crystals are less glassy but translucent. In fine undamaged condition this can display from almost any angle. An excellent US classic that ranks among the best not from Brazil.

Brazilianite - older find
stock #8.AE-715
Corrego Frio Mine, Linopolis, Divino das Laranjeiras, Doce Valley
Minas Gerais, Brazil
4.6 x 2.7 x 1.9 CM (miniature)
price: $380
new year 2021

An older specimen of Brazilianite with the blocky habit crystals. There is no matrix, this is pure Brazilianite (25.7 grams) translucent to transparent with very glassy luster on the crystal faces. The back and some edges are contacted but there is no damage per se.

Brazilianite
stock #AC-349
Linopolis, Divino das Laranjeiras, Doce Valley
Minas Gerais, Brazil
7.8 x 5.3 x 3.7 CM (cabinet)
price: $440

A sculptural tower of Brazilianite crystals most of which are doubly terminated. An early 1970 vintage specimen with no matrix at all just several generations of Brazilianite in several habits nicely composed as a zigzag arrangement. In excellent condition, all the main crystals are undamaged, with 20X magnification, only a tiny chips are found in spots that are not seen on display, perfect by naked eye. The smaller crystals are transparent, gemmy and very lustrous, the larger ones have inclusions that are seen just inside the faces and give a more matte look but still have glassy faces outside. Not typical, the esthetics are fine and far better in person.

Brazilianite with Muscovite
stock #7.1-023
Telirio Mine, Linopolis
Minas Gerais, Brazil
5.1 x 3 x 2.2 CM (small cabinet/ large miniature)
price: $525
Fall 2015

Another Brazilian classic. This features a fine sharp, glassy and partly gemmy Brazilianite that is nicely paired with Muscovite showing twin crystal forms. In great condition, the specimen displays very well from several sides. From the major pockets found in 2008, this quality is not being found now. There have been two major finds of fine Brazilianite in the past 70 years, both were different in habit, it may be a long while before the next one if ever. A good value for an esthetic and choice specimen.

Brazilianite (older USA specimen)
stock #AX-10-1059
GE Smith Mine (Chandler's Mills) Newport, Sullivan County
New Hampshire, United States
5.8 x 3.9 CM (small cabinet/ large miniature)
price: $80
Spring 2014

Brazilianite crystals of any size from outside Brazil are rare. This New Hampshire USA specimen has a main crystal prism 1.3 CM across and many smaller in a cluster that is about 3.2 CM across. For a non Brazilian piece this is darned good specimen of this unusual phosphate. Collected in the late 60's these are not seen very often anymore.

Brazilianite on Albite
stock #12.1-124
Telirio Mine, Linopolis
Minas Gerais, Brazil
6.4 x 4.3 CM (cabinet)
price: $400

A clean, bright, sharp and colorful specimen of clustered gemmy Brazilianites on a tiny shard of Albite matrix. The crystals reach 3.5 CM and are in fine condition. From 2009 finds in Linopolis, this is far above average and has a great esthetic, but at an affordable price.

Brazilianite on Muscovite with Clevelandite
stock #12.1-009
Telirio Mine, Linopolis
Minas Gerais, Brazil
5.1 x 3.2 CM (small cabinet/ large miniature)
price: $375

A fine, undamaged and esthetic specimen featuring a 4.2 CM gem crystal of glass-like yellow-green Brazilianite. Aside from simply enjoying a beautiful mineral, this is a good time for collectors to obtain a fine Brazilianite. Before the recent finds at Linopolis, these were very rare, expensive and highly sought after. They will certainly become rare again, and above average specimens will appreciate well.
