Fluorite (unusual gem clear crystal plate)
stock #8.1-248
Shangbao Pyrite Mine, Leiyang
Hunan, China
10.4 x 9.9 x 2.4 CM (cabinet)
price: $450

A very weird Fluorite! I obtained this in 2009 at the Shangbao Mine and sold it immediately. It is now back in trade. Simply, this plate is composed of many oriented parallel crystals that are as clear as glass, with a very pale pink to violet hue. The plate is cleaved on the back, but the display face is a remarkable mix of crystal faces and complex etching. I have never seen any other example of this odd form. A fine addition to any Fluorite collection or just an unusual specimen for display.
Vanadinite (exceptional electric red)
stock #12.1-016
Mibladen Mine, Upper Moulouya lead district, Midelt, Khenifra Province
Meknes-Tafilalet Region, Morocco
7.9 x 5.9 CM (cabinet)
price: $2100

Among the many average to pretty good Moroccan Vanadinites it is special to find a really superb specimen. Top pieces also command top prices. This one is exceptional, it stands out for esthetics, color, perfect condition and visual impact. It is also far less expensive than usual for this quality. In person, this really sings and blows away other pieces. If you have wanted a superb Vanadinite but were put off by stratospheric prices, take a hard look at this one!
Hematite (large twinned crystals)
stock #10.1-307
Ouro Preto
Minas Gerais, Brazil
5.3 x 4.8 CM (small cabinet/ large miniature)
price: $200

A big, bright metallic black complex twin of crystallized Hematite. Displays well from several angles, there is some inevitable chipping and contacts, but these are not distracting. The specimen is very complex and presents many forms with some mirror bright faces and others with very fine striations. These Brazilian Hematites rank well alongside the worlds best and are relatively very affordable.
Rutile ( single crystal with overgrowths))
stock #12.1-014
Pedra Preta Pit, Serra das Eguas, Brumado
Bahia, Brazil
3.5 x 1.2 CM (miniature)
price: $125

A deep red prism crystal that is complete, sharp, lustrous and translucent. From a find about 4 years ago, there were not many found. Chipping on edges seen with 10x magnification, but still displays well. The form is unusual too with a central prism that has a series of parallel overgrowths on the sides that are orienting themselves in classic twin law.
Rutile (epitaxial) on Hematite
stock #12.1-013
Novo Horizonte
Bahia, Brazil
3.5 x 2.1 CM (miniature)
price: $200

A modern classic, these star shaped radial rutile specimens are simply fantastic. When first found in Brazil, these were a huge sensation, the best ever seen. This is a good, small miniature that is far less expensive than larger examples, but still has a good impact. With brilliant luster, this specimen is a textbook example of epitaxy. These were rather plentiful from Brazilian dealers 3 years ago but are now getting scarce.
Epidote (doubly terminated) on Quartz (doubly terminated)
stock #12.1-011
Capelinha, Jequitinhouha Valley
Minas Gerais, Brazil
7.3 x 2.2 CM (cabinet)
price: $120

Real unusual and quite remarkable, a perfect floater! Doubly terminated epidote crystals (largest is 2.4 CM) on a clear quartz 7.3 CM long that is also doubly terminated. Several smaller epidotes penetrate into the quartz and can be seen from all sides. I have never seen any other like this.
Epidote (sharp Prismatic form)
stock #12.1-010
Capelinha, Jequitinhouha Valley
Minas Gerais, Brazil
4.1 x 3.8 CM (miniature)
price: $160

Sharp, bright shining lustre and well composed. The "back" side has a light dusting of secondary epidotes so it is slightly duller, the "front" is just glassy clean and pretty. From a small find that was not typical, these look much better than most Capelinha Epidotes. Very good display and more affordable than other locations.
Mimetite (green Botryoidal)
stock #10.1-318
Level 13, Potosi Mine, Santa Eulalia
6.5 x 4.1 CM (cabinet)
price: $440

Green Balls of rich, heavy Mimetite cover one surface of the gossan matrix. An older piece, pre 1975 and a very nice example of this uncommon style and form. This is similar to the famous bright yellow San Pedros De Corallitos Mimetites but green and wet looking. The balls are also more defined and bigger than the Mina Oujella mimetites. There is some chipping on a few balls but not distracting at all. Quite distinctive.
