Cuprite Var. Chalcotrichite with Smithsonite. Dolomite etc.
stock #15.1-430
Tsumeb
Otavi-Bergland district, Oshikoto, Namibia
4 x 3.4 x 3.2 CM (miniature)
price: $285
Winter 2016-17

A neat Tsumeb oddity! A large "blob" of Chalcotrichite composed of tiny hairlike crystals and masses that has a vug in its middle holding Dolomite crystals. A few small cuprian Smithsonite crystals are a nice accent on the matrix. Tsumeb is famed for the rare but beautiful Chalcotrichite included in carbonate minerals (ie. inside calcite or Cerussite) but I have never seen a crystallized carbonate mineral included in Chalcotrichite!
Elbaite (bent, doubly terminated crystal)
stock #15.1-971-(SM-723)
Gilgit, Gilgit district
Gilgit, Northern Areas, Pakistan
7.5 x 3.3 x 2.6 CM (cabinet)
price: $485
Winter 2016-17

An odd but very attractive, zoned Tourmaline crystal that is clearly bent. Doubly terminated and with three color zones this in fine condition. A cluster of Cleavlandite blades is the only matrix. One termination is an uncommon slanted habit. This is an early Pakistan specimen from some of the earliest finds (1970s) that looks a bit like later Stak Nala material, but is from Gilgit area. A good value for a rare habit and nice esthetics.
Fluorite (spherical), Calcite and Quartz
stock #15.1-926-(SM-5191)
Mahadari, Sinnar, Nasik District
Maharashtra, India
9.8 x 5.9 x 6 CM (cabinet)
price: $425
Winter 2016-17

A nice epitaxial combo specimen from the Deccan Plateau with odd but attractive esthetics. A main Calcite crystal has small spheres of Fluorite some coated by Calcite that are growing only on the crystal edges but not on any faces. Larger spheres of Fluorite and Quartz forms the matrix. In fine condition.
Cubanite- Exceptional twinned crystal on matrix
stock #Alec 23-008
Henderson Number 2, Chibougamau
Quebec, Canada
6.5 x 4.8 x 2 CM (cabinet)
price: $4000
Winter 2016-17

A perfect, undamaged sixling twin with brilliant luster perched on contrasting dark matrix. From the only find that ever produced good crystals, very few perfect ones were ever found and few of those were on matrix. Now that the mine has been closed for years specimens of this calibre are only rarely available from old collections. Textbook form and top quality for the species. While this is a good deal more expensive than other Cubanites we offer, this is certainly in a class by itself.
Corundum var. Sapphire
stock #16.1-658
Mogok, Pyin-oo-Lwin District
Mandalay division, Myanmar (Burma)
2.5 x 1 x .9 CM (thumbnail)
price: $320
Winter 2016-17

A pair of Sapphire crystals are perched on each other showing perfect textbook form. This shows the classic habit with lightly frosted faces, translucent with some transparent gem areas. Almost colorless with a faint blue to yellow hue, this is complete, a floater and undamaged. A choice thumbnail with far better form than is typical.
Diopside -Classic locale, Gem crystal on matrix
stock #14.1-057
DeKalb, St Lawrence Co.
New York, United States
6 x 3.8 x 3.4 CM (cabinet)
price: $2400
Winter 2016-17

An excellent 3.2 CM gem crystal of Diopside is well positioned on a Tremolite matrix. A classic US specimen From the very old locale of Dekalb New York, this is an early specimen of a type that has not been found for many years. Sharp form, good luster, transparent-gem with fine color and in great condition. Rarely seen on the market and never available in this quality. An excellent value.
Corundum var. Ruby on Calcite with Phlogopite
stock #16.1-660
Mogok, Pyin-oo-Lwin District
Mandalay division, Myanmar (Burma)
6.3 x 4.4 x 2.6 CM (cabinet)
price: $750
Winter 2016-17

A rich red Ruby crystal that is transparent, has a slight color zoning and more purple core. This stands nicely from the encasing Calcite matrix. A second corundum crystal on the backside is broken and more blue, it is not seen from the display side. There is one clean repair that is not seen without help of 20X magnification, otherwise the Ruby is perfect and complete. The crystal is partially enclosed on the calcite with 1.9 CM exposed and seems to be about 2.8 CM overall. Very fine form and color, Mogok Ruby has been regarded as the best in the world for centuries, yet few good specimens are seen. Mined in 2016, it is now illegal to export uncut gems from Mynamar.
Spodumene- Green
stock #A-19-336
Laghman
Laghman Province, Afganistan
6 x 4.5 x 3.6 CM (cabinet)
price: $290
Winter 2016-17

An older Afghan gemmy Spodumene crystal that seems to be color stable as this is over 15 years old. This blocky compound crystal has 3 distinct terminations at one end and a crude complex termination on the other. Overall in very good condition damage wise there is some minor contacting. The "hiddenite" name is often used for green Spodumene but that name should be reserved for the type locality. A rather big gem crystal of 164 Grams, this is much larger than could be found from the original locality. A very good value.
