new june 17

Sharp, gemmy undamaged and esthetic as well, this is a fine epidote showing a good olive green color. Looks a lot like a classic Austrian specimen but it is from Shigar. Display equally well from either side, a really great value for a good alpine style piece.
Realgar on Calcite
stock #Alec 19-309
Shimen (Jiepiayu) Mine, Shimen County, Changde Prefecture
Hunan, China
9 x 7.9 x 4.2 CM (cabinet)
price: $450
new june 17

Brilliant red and gemmy crystals of Realgar are growing from a cluster of phantom Calcite crystals from Shimen. This mine produced many of the very best Realgar specimens ever found, they have the brightest luster and the color is excellent. This specimen has been kept in the dark for more than 10 years since found so it is has a fresh unfaded look. In fine condition, the Calcite makes an excellent contrast and a also has a few bit of Realgar inside. A classic Chinese combination that is now quite rare on the market in this quality.
Quartz -orange phantom
stock #16.1-732
Orange River, Namakwa
Karas Region, Namibia
7.3 x 7.5 x 4.8 CM (cabinet)
price: $325
new june 17

A very unusual Orange River Quartz, with the center piece being a doubly terminated crystal with a sharp deep colored phantom and clear exterior. The matrix is also crystallized quartz with additional phantoms but more pale in color. Ex. Heini Saultau collection, this is in excellent condition with the dark phantom crystal well presented.
Fluorite on Quartz and Calcite, Ex. Szenics collection
stock #17.1-AX-27-231
Shangbao Pyrite Mine, Leiyang
Hunan, China
10.2 x 7.8 x 7.5 CM (cabinet)
price: $1400
new june 17

The ball like stepped cubo-octahedral Fluorites from Shangbao have become highly desirable and often quite expensive. This is an excellent and unusal specimen with fine display surfaces on front and back, almost a perfect floater. The individual Fluorites reach 2.7 CM and are a little deeper green than seen in the photos. In the square central windows of the crystals the interiors can be clearly seen as mostly glass clear, gemmy. Distinctive specimen from the finds vintage 2005, ex Terry Szenics collection. Very three dimensional and far better in person, this came from a short period when these could be obtained, prior and later specimens are quite different and to my eye not nearly as unique.
Amethyst- flower form
stock #Alec- 24-412
Karur District
Tamil Nadu, India
8.4 x 6.4 x 3 CM (cabinet)
price: $950
new june 17

Bright luster, rich color and with very fine esthetics, this is a choice Amethyst flower from Karur. This form of Quartz is known from just a few locations (Brazil etc) but by far the best color, clarity and sharpest habits are from Tamil Nadu in Karur, India. This locality produces small numbers of specimens in a good year, some years there are almost none. This is far better than average, better in person. Close examination shows most crystals are thickly included with golden needles, much like Rutile but usually identified as Lepidocrocite.
Spessartine on Muscovite
stock #Alec- 14-337
Gilgit, Gilgit district
Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan
4.7 x 4 x 3.9 CM (miniature)
price: $880
new june 17

Superb glassy garnets arranged in parallel or epitaxial stack making a wonderful natural sculpture. Perched on Muscovite crystals the Spessartine is very lustrous and in fine condition. Displays well from several angles, this was collected almost 25 years ago. Eyecatching and esthetic.
Fluorite- gem clear crystal on Calcite
stock #17.1-219
Cantera Llamas, Duyos, Caravia
Asturias, Spain
4.5 x 2.2 x 2.1 CM (miniature)
price: $380
new june 17

From the 2016 find at the Llamas quarry this is a super clear and glassy Fluorite with sharp edge beveling on all sides. Nicely perched on the Calcite matrix with a few extra tiny Fluorites for extra sparkle. Impressive perfection even under 20x magnification there are no nicks or imperfections. In some photos what appears as an internal cloud or veil is only external microscopic cubic indents on one face. The interior is certainly colorless and absolutely clear. This small location only produces a few nice pieces in any year and rarly this level of perfection.
Fluorite with epitaxial overgrwths on Quartz
stock #17.1-AX-14-294
Riemvasmaak, Kakamas district
Northern Cape Province, South Africa
5.4 x 3.8 x 2.6 CM (small cabinet/ large miniature)
price: $770
new june 17

Intense translucent green Octahedron perfectly set on sharp Quartz crystals. Ata quick glance a fine and attractive piece but the really significant feature is seen on a closer look. All the corners of the Octa have colorless epitaxial caps of Fluorite that is also well crystallized. A textbook perfect and esthetic specimen with incredible form. In undamaged condition and with top color, this was from a small find at Riemvasmaak 3 years ago.
