Elbaite - unusual color zoning on Clevelandite
stock #16.1-565
Stak Nala, Haramoush Mountains
Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan
3.8 x 2.8 x 1.7 CM (miniature)
price: $480
Spring 2017

A very fine small miniature with two super sharp gem Elbaites in an esthetic arrangement. From a recent find at Stak Nala, this pocket had an unusual zoning for this mine with a colorless area and a faint line of blue at the top that is captured in some of the photos. Depending on the lighting the colorless area can look slightly violet, the crystals grade to a dark green that is opaque near the bottom but translucent higher up. In fine condition the terminations are perfect even at 10x magnification. While similar to some older Stak Nala pieces this zoning is not like the more typical recent finds. Small but very choice!
Morganite Beryl with Elbaite and Lepidolite
stock #15.1-343
White Queen Mine, Pala, San Diego County
California, United States
5.5 x 5.1 x 3 CM (cabinet)
price: $825
Spring 2017

A classic USA Beryl Var. Morganite with nice form and a peachy-pink color that contrasts well with the deep purple matrix. Small green Elbaite Tourmalines are scattered on the matrix giving extra color. The largest crystal is 3.8 CM across and quite lustrous. The backside is partly contacted and has adhering quartz, so the best display is as shown. Attractive, in good overall condition and from the renowned White Queen Mine, this was collected more than 20 years ago but likely is a lot older. A good value for one of these
Fluorapatite on Beryl V. Aquamarine
stock #16.1-167
Alchuri, Shigar Valley, Skardu District, Baltistan
Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan
4 x 2.7 x 1.9 CM (miniature)
price: $280
Spring 2017

A fascinating miniature specimen, both unusual and pretty. A 3.2 CM tall well formed Apatite crystal is joined by two gem clear Aquamarine crystals. Both Aquas have some unknown inclusions of brown hairlike crystals and negative crystal forms inside. The Apatite has some inclusions too but less visible as it is milky and mostly opaque. A very nice arrangement and no matrix at all. The condition is very good overall, there are very small contacts on the Aquas and the bottoms of the crystals are incomplete, but the terminations are fine. A very nice association specimen.
Sheelite with Fluorapatite on Muscovite.
stock #17.1-AX-15-167
Mt. Xuebaoding, Pingwu Co., Mianyang Pref.
Sichuan, China
8.3 x 5 x 3.4 CM (cabinet)
price: $720
Spring 2017

A really nice combination specimen, with typical Xuebaoding matrix of Muscovite that hosts several yellow-orange Scheelite crystals and a single pink Fluorapatite. The apatite is well exposed and mostly transparent. The matrix was sawn on the back to remove it from the cleft. In good condition, there are very small chips on some Scheelites and the Apatite has a contact on the backside. Fine luster and better in person. Formerly in the Shields Flynn collection of Chinese minerals, vintage 2004 and obtained from Bert Ottens, this type of combo is no longer found. A modern classic.
Fluorite on Quartz
stock #15.1-1010-SM0
De'an Mine
Jiangxi, China
5.9 x 4.8 x 3.3 CM (small cabinet/large miniature)
price: $330
Spring 2014

A super sharp, well exposed and choice Fluorite on Quartz matrix. The main octahedral crystal is 2.6 CM across the axis and contrast nicely with the matrix. An older piece from the first wave of specimens produced at Dean mine, this was in the Charles Noll collection. These were exposed by dissolving the enclosing Quartz with hydrofluoric acid, and tricky and dangerous task. This one is especially esthetic and has some zoning. No damage, the Fluorite looks really fine from all angles. Although a lot of these did come out in the 2005-7 era, this quality was never very common.
Calcite with Aragonite- classic locale
stock #16.1-1275
Southwest Mine, Bisbee, Warren District, Mule Mts, Cochise Co.
Arizona, United States
8.8 x 4.9 x 4.8 CM (cabinet)
price: $225
Spring 2017

A choice Bisbee specimen with delicate needle crystals of acicular Aragonite perched on balls of Calcite. From the Southwest mine, this area intersected many voids formed by slumping of oxidized sulphide ore. These voids allowed many secondary Carbonate minerals to form in esthetic growths. As the mining entered these voids some fine specimens were saved. In perfect condition and with good luster.
Carrollite with Calcite
stock #A-19-257
Kamoya, Kambove, Katanga Copper Crescent
Katanga (Shaba), Democratic Republic of Congo (Zaire)
4.7 x 3.1 x 3.2 CM (miniature)
price: $190
Spring 2017

Carrollite with very bright metallic luster on a nice miniature specimen. There have been no new finds of Carrollite for a few years now, but for a time the Kambove mine was a prolific source for the best specimens ever found. This bright miniature has sharp crystals to 1.3 CM size, there are some contacts and bruises seen on some angles but they are relatively small. More perfect, larger specimens are now trading for many thousands, this piece is a lot more modest but still has top luster and nice form. An affordable alternative that looks much better than the mine run.
Adamite- Cuprian ex Marty Zinn
stock #12.1-262
Mina Ojuela, Mapimi
Durango, Mexico
6.8 x 5.3 x 3.2 CM (cabinet)
price: $400
Spring 2017

An outstanding Ojuela Adamite, with sharp glassy undamaged crystals on contrasting matrix. This is not the crumbly type gossan but a solid specimen with the Adamites well protected in a vug. In person the color is a little deeper and more intense than in the photos. This quality has not been seen for a few years. Former Marty Zinn piece, choice.
