Wulfenite in isolated crystals are nicely perched in tiny Dolomite crystals. The Wulfenite habit is the beveled edge type with a lustrous orange color. A choice thumbnail from the William Severance collection (his label is included). Bill has always had excellent taste and high standards for esthetics, and this piece shows that good taste well. Tsumeb has been the source of many forms of Wulfenite but this particular style, color, habit and overall look is unique to Tsumeb and instantly recognizable.
Brazilianite with Cleavelandite
stock #8.1-284
Telirio Claim, Linopolis, Divino das Laranjeiras, Doce Valley
Minas Gerais,
Brazil
5.7 x 5.4 x 3.7 CM (cabinet)
price: $2600
new year 2021
Large, textbook perfect and lustrous Brazilianite from the find in 2009 at Telirio. This is a cluster of fine, green to yellow colored Brazilianites with the largest crystal 4.5 CM tall and relatively thick. The condition is perfect and the specimen can display well from several angles. Most pieces of this find were the more common slender habit but there were a few that had this fatter form looking more like the very early finds decades ago. This piece has that form and the crystals are all fully transparent. In person the color is a bit more vivid and with super glassy luster. Sourced in Brazil at the time of the find from the late Dr. Luis Menezes. Luis was an amazing mineralogist and the man responsible for many of the greatest Brazilian specimens for decades.
Lanarkite with minor Cerussite
stock #21.1-045
C and B Mine, Christmas, Banner Mining District, Gila County
Arizona,
United States
4.6 x 4 x 2.7 M (miniature)
price: $150
new year 2021
Not a pretty specimen but ultra rare, a confirmed Arizona Lanarkite. This blocky matrix holds two small zones of Lanarkite and a few scattered very tiny Cerussite crystals. The largest bit is clearly eye visible (though still small) greenish yellow and 4mm across. This Lead secondary specimen comes from a small long closed polymetallic mine that has yielded very few other pieces, mostly all being micros. An uncommon mineral that is especially rare in the USA, this Lanarkite is not clearly crystalized mostly in platy cleaved masses. One very tiny spiky form crystal is seen only with very high power magnification. A very hard to get addition for any comprehensive Arizona suite.
Tangeite (Calcio-Volborthite)
stock #21.1-044
Kayenta, Navajo County
Arizona,
United States
2.8 x 2.2 x 1.4 CM (thumbnail)
price: $90

Colorful thumbnail of this uncommon Copper-Vanadium specie from Arizona. This specie was known as Calcio-Volborthite for many years but is now renamed Tangeite after this was re-described from an older type locale in Kyrgyzstan. Well-formed crystals on contrasting matrix that are especially vivid under the microscope. This mining area close to Monument Valley has several small old workings which were sources as far back as the late 19th century.
Spinel on Chondrodite - USA classic
stock #21.1-043
Amity, Orange County
New York,
United States
4.6 x 3.8 x 2.9 CM (miniature)
price: $340

The famed old Spinel locality of Amity was one of the first of the Eastern USA Classic locales. The exact original locality may be lost today but the Skarns in the area have yielded some nice Spinels from time to time. This is an older piece with fine octahedral Spinel crystals on a crystalline orange Chondrodite matrix. Ex Hladysz collection, this has sharp form, nice arrangement and excellent luster with no damage. Displays very well from several angles and better in person.
A colorful mix of rare minerals that are very well-crystalized. The Metatyuyamunite is in well-defined crystals mostly of yellow hues and the Hummerite (a rare Vanadium specie) is the more orange color. Coffinite is identified as well and there is at least one other specie present as bright green platelike crystals. This piece was in the Ruth and Andy Palmer rare species collection (and later Hladysz) which was used as a research tool by the late Dr. Joe Manderino. This area is the type locale for Hummerite, the name Uravan is formed from the element names Uranium and Vanadium.

Peru
6.9 x 5.1 x 4.3 CM (cabinet)

two large, well formed and complete Chalcopyrite crystals perched esthetically on a crystallized Sphalerite matrix. While Chalcopyrite is not a rare mineral, very good crystals like these are very uncommon. These are in perfect undamaged condition reaching 4.3 CM and having a fine brassy patina, these are classic textbook crystals. On several faces are a sprinkle of tiny bright golden Pyrite crystals that add a nice sparkle. From Huaron Mining district of Peru this specimen is more than 20 years old, a fine heavy Sulfide piece that looks great from most any angle.
Nekoite with Johannsenite and Manganaxinite
stock #21.1-040
Iron Cap Mine, Santa Teresa Mts, Graham County
Arizona,
United States
7.3 x 6.1 x 4.1 CM (cabinet)
price: $290
new year 2021
Nekoite is a rather rare mineral in good crystals and the best known come from the Iron Cap Mine. Not often seen in collections or in sizable specimens, this very rich piece of both Johannsenite and Nekoite. Both are well-crystallized and plentiful on many surfaces of this complex specimen. As a bonus there are several gemmy crystals of Manganaxinite hiding in the mix. Nekoit has a resemblance to Okenite which at one time it was mistaken for. The name was created by writing Oken backwards and adding the ite. Best appreciated with good magnification, the crystals of each specie are well-defined and show several habits.
