SOLD Calcite
stock #SOLD 9-1229s
Tsumeb
Otjikoto Region,
Namibia
12.5 CM. high x 12 CM. wide (cabinet /museum)
price: $0
Large, very showy museum-grade Calcite from Tsumeb. Glassy Calcite in pastel hued xls up to 3.5 CM are attractively clustered on a triangular pinnacle-shaped matrix. Excellent composition and vertical eye-appeal. There is slight scuffing and some cleaving on a few minor calcites at the edges but it isn't really noticeable, yet keeps this very affordable for such a large and attractive specimen.
SOLD Native Silver (fine wires) with Stephanite
stock #SOLD 8.1-197
San Genaro Mine, Castrovirreyna Dist.and Province
Huancavelica Department,
Peru
6.9 x 4.8 CM (cabinet /museum)
price: $700
A very esthetic well composed Silver specimen from the San Genaro Mine. An older piece ex. Terry Szenics. The matrix hosts many dark silver sulphides and the Stephanite is in distinct groups of eye visible crystals. The wires are densly piled above the matrix looking much like steel wool, with thicker central trunks ending in very fine tangled wires. A very rich piece and quite eyecatching
SOLD Quartz -Alpine smoky
stock #8DK-017
Gilgit, Gilgit district
Northern Areas,
Pakistan
21 x 4 CM (cabinet /museum)
price: $0
Huge and gemmy! This is simply a spectacular large and fine quartz. Overall very clean and lusterous, very slight frosting on a few faces otherwise it has killer glassy sides. The termination is a staged termination and tapers in 2 stages. This is quite close to perfect, however there is a micro chip on the "back side "of the tip, and with magnification a few other chips can be found. However on this large crystal these really are of no real significance. This is a top class and very impressive Alpine style smoky that could pass as a Swiss or French crystal (and be priced FAR higher too!) A real classy rock at a very reasonable price for such a piece!
Triphane (Spodumene) Large Gem crystal
stock #7 AC -305
Khauraz
Laghman Province,
Afganistan
33.8CM X 4.6CM X 2.6 CM Thick (cabinet /museum)
price: $4500
A HUGE and impressive monster that is doubly terminated, top gem grade yellow triphane. Sharp, glassy lustre and damage free with only some tiny bits of matrix adhearing to the main prism which is over a foot long!. One end has the classic hackly / fibrous termination while the other shows a staggered pair of prismatic tips with some fine growth hillocks. This crystal like all fine gem spodumene is highly dichroic and shows an excellent orange -pink transition on the C axis. The piece has been in a private collection for several years and the color (unlike many) is quite stable. Good triphane has never been plentiful. This one seems to have been from the major find of 99-2000 and I have not seen much new material available over the past few years, and none as large and fine as this. I consider this a very fine display piece that is both reasonably priced and will likely have outstanding investment value
Kunzite (Spodumene) Large Gem crystal
stock #7 MOH-182
Mawi Pegmatite
Laghman Province,
Afganistan
25.2 CM X 3.8 CM X 3 CM thick (cabinet /museum)
price: $5500
An incredible specimen! A huge doubly terminated Gem crystal with outstanding color, in exceptional condition and form. This is a very, very fine crystal that is a full 10 inches long, and has top rich color rangeing from a pale lilac to a rich deep purple/ pink. Composed of several parrellel growths showing staggered terminations this piece has great visual impact and has no visible damage! Great value for this piece as it is nearly 100% cuttable gem, and it can be displayed several ways.
Galena and Sphalerite on Quartz
stock #7-CNA -558
Shuikoushan Lead Zinc Mine, Kangjianwan, Changning
Hunan,
China
18 x 11.5CM (cabinet /museum)
price: $340
This is a very unusual, esthetic piece that displays well from front or back . What I call the front is a 3 dimensional red sparkling quartz matrix studded with dozens of super sharp, cubo octahedral and dodecahedral galenas. The piece is well balanced and the crystals are lustrous up to about 1.2 CM. The "back" is a dense mass of larger galenas densely packed with dark red sphalerites.to nearly 3 CM. Good galenas are rare from Shuikoushan, and this style and matrix contrast are rare from anyplace. Careful examination shows some very minor damage to some non-prominent crystals that are not easily seen. The base and a small part of the back is broken where it was removed from the pocket. Certainly worth far more!
Fluorite on Quartz
stock #6.2-124
De'an Mine
Jianxi,
China
19.8X15 CM (cabinet /museum)
price: $375
A very large cabinet plate of Quartz and Fluorite layers with the top covered with fluorite octahedra of purple to violet color. Very esthetic and different from the usual fluorites from this location. The quartz has been etched to expose the fluorite and the result is impressive. Crystals exceed 3.4CM and there is no damage.
