Rhodochrosite and Quartz
Wudong mine, Liubao, Cangwu Co. Wuzoh
6.5 x 4 CM (small cabinet/large miniature)
A very pretty and balanced arrange ment of compound Rhodochrosite rhombs sitting on a matrix of drusy quartzon a shard of Dolomitic country rock. Top color for a Chinese rhodo and quite fine from anyplace! The largest rhomb is 2 CM and all are sharp and translucent. This glows with any backlighting but looks fine without .
From this small but remarkable find in 2005-6 came a lot of fine Fluorites. I had the rare opportunity to be at the site as the pocket zone was emptied and selected a suite of the best pieces. This was one. Some later pockets did not reach this quality and had a lot of damage. This is in person, this is a killer, perfect, undamaged. I sold it in 2006, it is exceptional, with strong magnification there is NO damage. The crystals are all complete, razor sharp, gemmy with clearly seen zoned clay phantoms. We are very glad to have this piece back to resell!
