4.3 x 1.3 x .9 CM (miniature)
price: $190

A terminated glassy crystal of Diopside with nice green color on the top. Transparent to translucent, this was in the Warren Johannson collection, a very nice example of a "Nickel" Diopside. There were some large and well-known pale brown crystals found at one time in this locality but very few such complete green crystals. A Canadian classic.
Vesuvianite
stock #AX-16-232
Jeffrey Mine, Asbestos (now Val-des-Sources, Estrie,
Quebec,
Canada
3.5 x .6 x .7 CM (small miniature/ large thumbnail (toenail))
price: $300
new year 2021
A single glassy prism of yellow-green Vesuvianite from the great Jeffrey Mine. In perfect condition sections are gem clear, transparent and other parts are translucent with wispy internal veils. One edge of the prism has a dusting of tiny transparent Vesuvianites that are nearly colorless. Somewhat dichroic, this more yellow hue is much less common than the more apple green colors. The Jeffrey Mine produced many fine Vesuvianites, certainly the world's best but also was the source of many rare and unique colors. This is a nice and relatively affordable crystal, impressive for the size and nicer in person.
Cubanite with Calcite
stock #AX-3-009
Henderson Number 2, Chibougamau
Quebec,
Canada
1.8 x 1.5 x 1.1 CM (thumbnail)
price: $700
new year 2021
A fully twinned Cubanite crystal from the great find at Chibougamau almost 25 years ago. This Cubanite has a small spray of flat Calcite crystals on one corner giving a nice accent. There is no matrix. A circle of an iridescent alteration in the very center of the radiating arms is quite unusual. This patina is the classic brassy golden metallic. The front side is complete all around with the radiating point off center but crystallized on the fat edge. The back is contacted though not broken and about 50% complete. One small chip is noted on the display face that is visible by naked eye but can be hidden by creative mounting. Cubanite is very delicate and some damage is normal, this is not perfect but has far less than most. The find at this mine (Henderson #2) was by far the greatest ever with the best Cubanite crystals ever seen. These are only available from old collections and the most desirable are the flat twinned crystals that show the radiating or star striations.

A choice, flawless crystal that is fully transparent and has complex internal crazing. Incredibly lustrous. A competition level thumbnail that is undamaged on all sides. The color of this Vesuvianite is unlike nearly all greens from the Jeffrey Mine, it is a dark asparagus green with yellow highlights. Jeffrey Mine Vesuvianites are thought by many to be by far the best in the world. The locality has produced many habits and vivid colors, this will be a fine addition to any Jeffrey suite or just as a fine quality thumbnail.

Thumbnail specimen of fine transparent Garnet. These are well-defined, isolated and brilliantly lustrous. A cluster of yellow-green Diopside crystals with a brilliant luster and sharp form. From the well-known Orford Nickel Mine, this specimen was in the Warren Johansson collection it is a 1960's vintage piece. This is very well defined for this locality where most of the green or "Chrome" crystals are frozen in matrix or are much smaller and incomplete. The locality was also known for some large Diopside crystals with a tabular habit and a brown color. This habit is completely different, transparent to translucent and not often seen.In good condition, one termination is contacted but the others are sharp and well-defined.

Bright, apple-green Vesuvianite crystal that is doubly terminated and has glassy lustrous faces. The crystal is complete all around and undamaged, fully translucent with some spots of transparency. There are a few small sidecar crystals that have some spots that are contacted and recrystallized on those edges, this is not seen without magnification. One termination is a deeper more emerald green color than the other. Overall a choice Vesuvianite from the famed Jeffrey Quarry, the only place on earth that ever produced Vesuvianite of this vivid color.

Doubly terminated, lustrous Apatite crystals set in a pink Calcite matrix. The Apatites are a mix of green to red-brown colors and have the typical slightly rounded edges noted from the Canadian Skarn deposits in this region. The matrix is sawn on the backside which is not visible on display. The smaller crystals have chipping but the largest (6.5 CM) is pristine. These Apatites are slightly transparent and fully translucent.
