Barite-Classic locale
stock #15.1-171
Florence Mine, Egremont
Cumberland, Cumbria, England
8.3 x 5.3 x 5.2 CM (cabinet)
price: $1450
Worldwide mix summer

Fine, classic Barite (Baryte) with color zoned crystals that are also transparent, lustrous and doubly terminated. From the Florence Mine in the Frizington area, the matrix is distinctive Dolomite with Hematite coloring in some areas. This has the classic form from the Frizington area, but is by far the most attractive Barite I have seen from the Florence mine, a location better known for Hematite, Fluorite and Quartz. The Barites are in remarkable condition for such delicate, slender crystals which are free standing on the matrix. These crystals have quite small connection points and have zoned red phantoms.

Gypsum-
stock #AX-10-811
Kirkby Thore. Vale of Eden
Cumberland, Cumbria, England
6.3 x 4.6 x 4.2 CM (cabinet)
price: $140
Worldwide mix summer

A sharp and curious old English specimen of Daisy bed or Daisy Wheel habit gypsum crystals on matrix. Some of the flowers have the rare but desirable Rhombohedral crystal preserved at the center or core of the flowers. The matrix has these flowers displayed on two sides.

Galena Pseudo after Pyromorphite -Classic locale
stock #0241-JM-331A
Wheal Hope, Perranzabuloe, St. Agnes District
Cornwall, England
2.8 x 2.3 x 1.5 CM (thumbnail)
price: $330
Worldwide mix summer

Classic Cornish thumbnail specimen of the very desirable Galena after Pyromorphite crystals from Wheal Hope. Small but distinct crystals of Pyromorphite have full changed to Galena but the form remains. Ex John Marshall collection, obtained by him before 1970. These Pseudomorphs are only known from a few spots in the world and all seem to have been found over a century ago. These are especially uncommon from Cornwall, and while to many people are just black and ugly, they are a prize to those who understand these things!

Pharmacosiderite- very old classic
stock #18.1-201
St Day United Mines, St Day, Gwennap CP
Cornwall, England
4.5 x 3.2 x 2.7 CM (miniature)
price: $350
Spring update

A fine vintage specimen of crystallized Pharmacosiderite, a rather rare specie and a Cornish classic. The label on this specimen dates to pre 1870 when the Mines were absorbed and names changed. The crystals are as always best seen with magnification (or great eyesight!) they are very sharp and distinct, rich green, lustrous, glassy cubic and transparent to translucent. A very elegant small piece with a Frieburg collection label that adds a nice provenance.

Apatite- Ca rich Fluorapatite, classic casts after Anhydite
stock #15.1-339
Geevor Mine, Levant sect. Botallack-Pendeen Area
Cornwall, England
8.3 x 5.2 x 5.2 CM (cabinet)
price: $600
Spring update

A fine old Cornish classic, a cast composed entirely of Apatite crystals have formed casts after Anhydites. The specimen is crystallized on all sides with just a few spots of contact. Lustrous and sparkling and very three dimensional, the shapes of the Anhydrite crystals are sharply preserved. The Apatite crystals are very sharp, glassy, translucent brown color in hexagons with flat pinacoids. Choice, Ex KP hammond collection, these were at one time called Francolite which is now discredited but is a varietal name still in use.

Mimetite var Campylite- classic locale
stock #16.1-675
Dry Gill Mine, Caldbeck Fells
Cumberland, Cumbria, England
3 x 2.7 x 2.1 CM (small miniature/ large thumbnail (toenail))
price: $100
Spring update

A nice small example of the Campylite habit of Mimetite that is so famed from Dry Gill. This ancient (it was already old in the 17th century) locality once was world renowned, every serious collection had specimens from here. Now closed for many years it is a true classic locale. Good luster, a nice Botryoidal form, and a light orange to green color. The display side is in fine condition, it is contacted on the back.

Fluorite- Classic English, with Galena
stock #15.1-554
Weardale North Pennines
Durham, England
9.2 x 6.2 x 4.9 CM (cabinet)
price: $290
Pre Holiday 2017

Big, zoned purple Fluorites crystals with sharp edges and classic face modifications. As is typical of some english Fluorites like this there is daylight fluorescence. The outer edges of the cubes are clear while the center is a milky white to pale purple. In exceptional condition damage wise, there are a few dull Galena crystals with Goethite overgrowth that adding contrast. From an older collection, this was collected long prior to 1970. The largest cube is over 5 CM diagonal and the condition is excellent damage-wise.

Pyromorphite -Vintage two toned from Classic locale
stock #1028-JM-486
Alston Moor
Cumberland, Cumbria, England
8.8 x 7 x 3 CM (cabinet)
price: $2200
Pre Holiday 2017

A very fine, old Pyro having two generations and two colors of crystal growth. A significant specimen, Ex John Marshall Pyromorphite collection, collected prior to 1900. John obtained this in 1972 at the Boylston Massachusetts Library auction of a collection originally donated in 1900. It took him a lot of research and trips to the British museum to clarify the locality. This is described on his detailed collection card included with the specimen. Nearly perfect, very little bruising as seen, most crystals are well defined and lustrous. A very choice example from a less well known classic locale.
