Carminite with and in Calcite
La Cigüeña Vein area, Mina Ojuela, Mapimi
7.8 x 6.3 x 2.6 CM (cabinet)
An outstanding Carminite specimen from Ojuela found in the early 80's. Even without the Carminite this would be a fine Calcite with elongated glass clear crystals on contrasting matrix. However as these Calcite are resting on and included by bright red prisms and spays of Micro Carminite it is something very special. The matrix is a complex gossan well covered with micro Carminites which are also on the backside but without the Calcites. Some other very small yellow crystals may be Beudantite but are not analyzed, these are well under .05 MM. The Gemmy Calcite is in excellent condition, with bright luster, The quality of the Carminite (as is typical for the specie) is best appreciated under good magnification, by naked eye it looks like a very red rust, however close exam shows thousands of brilliant red sprays, fans, needles and clusters of Carminites. Choice for the specie and excellent for the locality, Carminite is not often seen larger than thumbnail or micro-mount specimens but this is a cabinet sized specimen with a nice display quality.
