stock #15.1-031
Elmwood Mine, Carthage, Smith County
Tennessee, United States
5.6 x 4.2 x 3.8 CM (cabinet)
price: $340
Spring 2017

A perfect complete Carthage corner habit Fluorite crystal showing the pyramidal etched growth that is so desirable from the Elmwood mine. A pale-purple hue is seen from some angles but the interior is flawlessly clear and colorless. Naturally etched from the corner section of a large perfect cube this rare habit is best at the Elmwood in Carthage, Tennessee.

Fluorite
stock #15.1-030
Elmwood Mine, Carthage, Smith County
Tennessee, United States
5.5 x 3.7 x 3.3 CM (cabinet)
price: $425
Post Tucson 2015

An etched "Carthage corner" of pale purple to light yellow Fluorite. Complete and well-defined, the insides of the crystal are gem clear. This uncommon habit is especially distinct from the Elmwood Mine, and this piece is a very good example. Only one edge has a bruise that is not seen on display, otherwise this is in good condition. Better in person and at a very reasonable cost for one of these.

SOLD Fluorite w. Sphalerite
stock #SOLD 15.1-029
Elmwood Mine, Carthage, Smith County
Tennessee, United States
3.9 x 3.2 x 3.1 CM (miniature)
price: $0
Post Tucson 2015

A simple attractive small specimen from the now classic Elmwood mine. An affordable Fluorite on Sphalerite with frosted faces, lilac hue, subtle zoning and nice contrast. Not perfect, so not expensive - there is some very small edge rubbing and a cleaved crystal at the rear. Still attractive and a good value there have not been many Fluorites recovered in the past 2 years.

Fluorite
stock #AX-20-071
Elmwood Mine, Carthage, Smith County
Tennessee, United States
4 x 3.2 x 3.2 CM (miniature)
price: $320
pre Tucson 2015 update

Good Fluorite from the Elmwood mine is always desirable but the mine is mostly producing Calcite now. This is a small but quite nice specimen that sits on a contrasting matrix. Nice zoning and clarity, this one has the delicate surface steps and it is possible to see the matrix through the Fluorite. A modern American classic, still affordable for now, but attractive enough for any collection.

Sphalerite (red-black crystals) on Calcite with Fluorite
stock #A7-019-(831)
Elmwood Mine, Carthage, Smith County
Tennessee, United States
8.4 x 6 x 3.1 CM (cabinet)
price: $420
pre Tucson 2015 update

An attractive Sphalerite crystal cluster that has flower-like form is perched on a contrasting matrix. The color looks black at first glance but with strong lighting it is a translucent dark red-brown (ruby-jack) color. The luster is extra glassy bright and the quality is fine. The front of the specimen is in excellent shape damage-wise, the back and one edge is contacted which is not seen from the display side. Sphalerite specimens from Elmwood are common, but esthetic specimens of this caliber are quite rare to find. A lot of display impact for the size.

twinned Calcite on Sphalerite
stock #8.1-270
Elmwood Mine, Carthage, Smith County
Tennessee, United States
12 x 10 CM (cabinet)
price: $950

Perfect jewel-like amber cognac color Calcites (largest is 7.7 CM) set on a dark red to black matrix of crystallized Sphalerite. No damage and only one tiny contact on one of the smaller Calcites, this is a pristine piece that has top notch luster. The main crystal is the sort of twin sometimes described as a "frog" where one half of the twinned pair develops selectively and makes a frog-like crystal. An Elmwood classic that is far better than you could usually expect in this price range.
