Elbaite - unusual California tourmaline color
stock #AX-7-181-(144)
Himalaya Mine, Gem Hill,Mesa Grande District, San Diego County
California, United States
2.7 x 1.2 x 1.1 CM (thumbnail)
price: $640
Spring 23

A sharp and unusual gem Tourmaline from old finds at the famed Himalaya Mine. Ex Larry White collection, which he obtained in 1964 with two other Himalaya Tourmalines, but this was the only one with this color. We usually see the pinks and some yellow-greens but this mint green to bluish color is very uncommon. The condition is excellent, the termination complete and with fine transparency, this is nearly all facet grade Tourmaline. Better in person.

Elbaite (Rubellite) with Lepidolite
stock #AX-7-233-(646)
Himalaya Mine, Gem Hill,Mesa Grande District, San Diego County
California, United States
2.1 x 1.5 x 1.2 CM (thumbnail)
price: $650
new year 2021

A fine, super colorful thumbnail Tourmaline from the Larry White collection. Great condition, gemmy transparency and vivid pink to red color that contrast with the purple Lepidolite. This is currently mounted on one of Larry's handmade wooden bases but it can easily be removed if desired. A slight bend near the termination and some color zoning add extra interest. In addition the crystal shows a very good dichroic color shift in polarized light. Choice small thumbnail. A classic USA gem crystal, esthetic, and even nicer in person.

stock #AX-7-(1144)
Himalaya Mine, Gem Hill,Mesa Grande District, San Diego County
California, United States
1.8 x .6 x .7 CM (thumbnail)
price: $130
Worldwide mix summer

A cute Tourmaline thumbnail ex Larry White collection that has a very unusual color and becomes colorless when rotated in polarized light. This is undamaged and very transparent (the photos do not show the transparency well). A nice, glassy little gem crystal that is very unusual for the locale.

Elbaite on Quartz
stock #14.1-185
Himalaya Mine, Gem Hill,Mesa Grande District, San Diego County
California, United States
3 x 1.9 x 1.6 CM (thumbnail)
price: $240
Worldwide mix summer

A fine thumbnail zoned Tourmaline on a doubly terminated Quartz crystal from the classic Himalaya Mine. The Elbaite has a sharp termination on one end but the bottom is incomplete, otherwise sharp and in perfect undamaged condition. Older specimen with a pastel pink body to a dark green cap. Displays well from several angles.

Elbaite with Lepidolite
stock #AX-30-023
Himalaya Mine, Gem Hill,Mesa Grande District, San Diego County
California, United States
5.6 x 1.4 x 1.1 CM (miniature)
price: $1850

Unusually clear gem grade and with much better than usual color intensity. This is the classic look and habit of the Himalaya mine, but in exceptional condition and quality. No repairs and very close to perfect condition damage-wise (just one chip about .5 millimeter that is clearly not distracting or easy to see). This is an old specimen, far better in person, and far better than most of this size and type.

Elbaite (unusual multi-color tourmaline)
stock #A7-158-(534)
Himalaya Mine, Gem Hill,Mesa Grande District, San Diego County
California, United States
4.8 x .8 CM (miniature)
price: $270
Spring 2014

An older stacked growth multi-color crystal cluster ex Larry White collection. There are several individual terminations on this piece and all are perfect, undamaged. With good magnification it is also possible to see several tiny side car crystals that have blue terminations! The color sequence and habit is unusual for the Himalaya mine, the blue terminations however are distinctive. This specimen is at least 45 years old.

Elbaite (very unusual form)
stock #A7-253-(263)
Himalaya Mine, Gem Hill,Mesa Grande District, San Diego County
California, United States
5.8 x 2.7 CM (cabinet)
price: $1750
Spring 2014

A remarkably formed Elbaite "lollypop tourmaline" from early mining at the Himalaya (San Diego CA). Ex Larry White collection, this is said to be an illustrated/ published specimen in both a pen and ink drawing illustration and a black and white photo, but I do not know where this was published. If anyone knows I would love to find out. The piece is formed of 2 complete crystals that grew flat on a matrix (they are undamaged but the entire backside is a natural contact) to form an esthetic sculpture. The top crystal termination faces forward perched in notch atop a pink and green stalk. Resembling a stop sign or a lollypop this is clearly a very different arrangement! Good color with gemmy areas, nice luster and with a form that will stand out even in a crowded collection of tourmaline.

SOLD Elbaite
stock #SOLD 7.AE-183
Himalaya Mine, Gem Hill,Mesa Grande District, San Diego County
California, United States
4.6x2.4 CM (miniature)
price: $0

A richly zoned crystal that is very sharp and damage free. This is the classic bi-color for this mine showing a sharp flat termination. It has much richer than usual color depth and really glows with any backlight.
