Enargite -Classic locale
Leonard Mine, 3800 foot level, Butte
5.2 x 4.8 x 3.9 CM (small cabinet/ large miniature)
A cluster of unusually bright, lustrous and sharp Enargite crystals with a few small Pyrite and Quartz on the edges. In excellent undamaged condition with Enargites free standing up to 1.7 CM. A choice, classic Leonard Mine (Butte, Montana) specimen from the golden age of mining there. The flashy luster on this black Copper Sulphide is quite esthetic (and even attractive for a black mineral)compared with the more usual sooty black specimens.
A fine, sharp, well crystallized Butte Covellite collected in Butte before 1966 by Paul Heissfeld. Comes with Heissfeld and Larry Conklin labels. Larry notes: An excellent mass of large crystals and no matrix.
Classic form and habit, very good blue and gold iridescence amid the dark crystals. Covellite crystals of any size are rare and best known from just two localities, both long closed.
