Il Karas Region, Namibia

Single crystal of Barite (Baryte) from an unusual locality the Tses Propect in the Il Karas of Namibia. This shows a distinct golden to orange color transition. Nice thumbnail that is in fine condition and perfectly terminated. This seems to have been a one time find. these are more or less impossible to find except from older collections.

Elbaite - conjoined dichroic gem crystals
stock #18.AX-019
Coronel Murta, Jequitinhonha Valley
Minas Gerais, Brazil
3.2 x 2.6 x 1. CM (thumbnail)
price: $250

A pair of terminated transparent Tourmalines from vintage 1980 finds at Coronel Murta (Minas Gerais, Brazil). This Elbaite is also quite dichroic and best appreciated when rotated in front of a polarized light like a computer screen. The color ranges from almost colorless blue hue to a very dark green. In very good condition overall, this is nearly all facet grade clear and has fine well-developed striations. 17.5 grams and quite different from more recent Brazilian Tourmalines. This will fit at an angle in a perky box but not a 1 inch cube.

Lazurite crystal on Marble
stock #24.1-191
Sar-e Sang, Kuran wa Munjan District
Badakshan, Afghanistan
3.3 x 2.7 x 2.6 CM (thumbnail)
price: $110

A well-exposed and sharp crystal of Lazurite on contrasting white Marble matrix. It is hard to find such a good thumbnail of Lazurite, the crystals tend to be much too large. In fine condition, a choice classic specimen.

Anglesite - gemmy crystal
stock #24.1-187
Touissit, Touissit-Bou Beker Dist., Jerada Province
Oriental Region, Morocco
3.1 x 2.6 x 2.1 CM (thumbnail)
price: $290

Bright yellow striated main crystal of Anglesite on a thin matrix of other Anglesites and Galena. A very nice thumbnail from the famed and now classic Touissit Mines of Morocco. The other Anglesites are incomplete and have noticeable edge damage, the main crystal is in better shape overall, the termination is very sharp, but is rough on the lower end. Not for perfectionists but still choice, affordable and a very nice gem grade crystal with fine color and luster.

SOLD Grossular with Diopside
stock #SOLD 24.1-184
VAG Mine, Lowell & Eden
Vermont, United States
2.1 x 1.3 x .8 CM (thumbnail)
price: $390

A small but exceptional thumbnail from the famed classic locality of Belvidere Quarry (VAG MIne) in Vermont, USA. This locality is famed for its red Garnets but there are other colors, much more rare. This slender stacked cluster combines green and peach-yellow color crystals with a few small Diopside as well. Very rare at this locality and from any other location, this stacked form and color is impressive for any Garnet collection or a Northeastern USA suite. Tiny but choice!

Leonite - Vintage German
stock #20.1-740
Neuhof-Ellers, Neuhof, Fuida, Kassel Region
Hesse, Germany
2.7 x 1.9 x 1.6 CM (thumbnail)
price: $160

A classic old style thumbnail that comes with vintage label and the glass tube type thumbnail container in common use over 100 years ago. Leonite is a fairly rare Hydrated Potassium Magnesium Sulfate first described in 1896. Crystals on this small piece are up to 1.3 CM and are a good example of the specie. These may be pseudomorphs after Picromerite since many specimens from German localities are. Nice vintage specimen of a specie not often seen on the market.

Sphalerite - gem crystal on Quartz
stock #24.1-158
Empire State #4 Mine, 3900 foot level, Balmat, St. Lawrence County
New York, United States
3.5 x 2.7x 2.2 CM (thumbnail)
price: $480

A killer thumbnail with a flawless gem clear Sphalerite twin perched on contrasting Quartz crystals. From the incredible new find of these Sphalerites at Balmat, New York in the #4 Mine at 3900 feet down. There were quite a number of nice thumbnails in the find, but just a few of this quality and esthetics, most were very quickly snapped up. Certainly destined to be classics, the better specimens from this locality are modern mineral treasures. Bright glassy luster, yellow-orange color and perfect clarity.

Hydroxylherderite - classic Northeastern USA
stock #24.1-170-(JCO)
Bennett Quarry, Buckland, Oxford County
Maine, United States
2.1 x 1.7 x 1.1 CM (thumbnail)
price: $290

Sharp, perfectly formed and doubly terminated main crystal with no matrix, only a few smaller crystals and a tiny fleck of Mica are attached. A classic Maine specimen from the famed Bennett Quarry, the crystal has an unidentified thin chocolate brown skin on most of the faces. In a few spots the coating is gone and the crystal seen below is gem clear and colorless. It seems to be a simple job to remove this coating, but it may be one of the more rare Phosphates so it should stay until identified. This is an excellent specimen from this locale and with the color coating very unusual too.
