Quartz (Cumberland habit) with Hematite
stock #18.1-366
Chubb Lake, St. Lawrence County
New York,
United States
2.2 x 1.9 x 1.7 CM (thumbnail)
price: $260
Spring 2020
A USA classic Quartz from Chubb Lake, New York, this is a perfect thumbnail with textbook form. The crystal is complete all around, undamaged, a floater with sharp faces and a sparkling dusting of Hematite in tiny crystals. The Quartz is also included with the same sparkling Hematite which can be seen clearly inside the faces. This locality has been closed for many years and is remarkably similar in its mineralogy to the old British localities of the Cumberland Iron mines. This piece could easily pass as British (and as a very fine piece) but it is actually much more uncommon from this small but significant US locale.
A super single crystal thumbnail of red-orange Childrenite ex John Buckley Collection. This is translucent to transparent and has internal zoning. From a find many years ago at Mendes Pimental, there were very few found with this unusual color, it is possibly closer to the Eosphorite end of the series though the original testing called this Childrenite, we have not re analyzed this. Complete and well terminated, one part of the termination hosts a zone of tiny doubly terminated Quartz crystals which adds a nice contrast. No matter the specie this is a choice colorful example of both ends of the series.
Witherite on Fluorite
stock #20.1-083
Minerva #1 Mine, Cave-in-Rock, Hardin County
Illinois,
United States
2.8 x 2.6 x 1.8 CM (thumbnail)
price: $140
Spring 2020
A complete ivory colored Witherite crystal sitting on a blue crystalline Fluorite showing classic form. From the famed Minerva #1 Mine, this is a well formed thumbnail specimen in very good condition. The faces of the Witherite have the characteristic tiny stepped structures that are so definitive for this locality.
Wulfenite "windowpane" type
stock #19.1-994
Rowley Mine, (Reliance Mine), Theba, Painted Rock District
Arizona,
United States
1.8 x 1.6 x 1 CM (thumbnail)
price: $160
A smaller thumbnail that has a super presentation. Two main Wulfenite windows are nicely perched on a sliver of crystalized Calcite matrix. Very tiny balls of red Mimetite add color so that at certain angles the Wulfenites are a more reddish or yellow depending on the perspective. In fine condition as seen, this looks great from several angles. The Rowley mine tended to have smaller and more delicate Wulfenites but they could be incredibly esthetic. A choice little piece with more display impact than might be expected.
Fluorite -Pink Octahedral with inclusions
stock #19.1-676
Huanggang Mine, Chifeng Prefecture, Hexigten Banner, Ulanhead League
Inner Mongolia Region,
China
1.8 x 1.2 x 1 CM (thumbnail)
price: $220
From the great new finds at Huangang, this is a perfect thumbnail of two light pink octahedral crystals. The crystals are nicely juxtaposed and the whole is a small but esthetic piece of high quality. These transparent octahedrons are included by fibers of an Asbestos like mineral, perhaps Byssolite. The condition of this is perfect on all sides, each corner and edge is undamaged. This was a very large and impressive find but this level of perfection was very rare, perhaps 1 in 100 pieces at best. This style of Fluorite is quite unique and absolutely unlike any pinks from any other locality. The faces are lightly frosted but the interiors are very clear and the included fibers are easily seen. The large number of specimens recovered has helped keep the prices very affordable this is certainly the right time to get a choice piece.

Rhodochrosite with Calcite etc.
stock #19.1-446
Santa Eulalia, Aquiles Serdan
Chihuahua,
Mexico
3.2 x 2.3 x 1.8 CM (thumbnail)
price: $120
A neat thumbnail of interlocked rhombs of Rhodochrosite with tiny calcites on some edges. The crystals are complete and in undamaged condition. This is a nice example of the HQLP (High Quality, Low Price) concept. Santa Eulalia over many years produced Rhodochrosite in small finds and unique pockets of many different habits, forms and styles. Perhaps the most diverse Rhodo locale in the world, Santa Eulalia is remarkable and continues to yield small finds of surprising quality.
Fluorite with Quartz
stock #19.1-421
Cantera Llamas, Duyos, Caravia
Asturias,
Spain
2.5 x 2.1 x 2.1 CM (thumbnail)
price: $150
Pristine thumbnail of Fluorite cubes having clean beveled edges and a delicate purple hue. The cubes are fully transparent with a slight frosting on some faces which under strong magnification seems to be a complex recrystallization. In perfect condition damage wise, this is a nice example from this small but important locality that has been sporadically producing small numbers of specimens but sometimes of very fine quality. The matrix is perfectly visible through the crystals and the Fluorite is nicely perched at a nice display angle.
