Spinel
stock #21.1-061
Parker Mine, Laurentides
Quebec, Canada
3.3 x 2.8 x 1.7 CM (thumbnail)
price: $110
Spring 23

A sharp and lustrous Spinel octahedron is perched on a matrix shard. In excellent condition, the Spinel has distinct edge and corner modifications and is well exposed from the enclosing rock. This is from the Parker Mine in Québec which was a Mica mine and was at one time the source of fine Spinel crystals in Feldspar like this example.

Anatase - classic location and form
stock #21.1-530
Hardanngervidda, West, Odda, Ullensvang
Vestland, Norway
1.4 x .6 x ..7 CM (thumbnail)
price: $180
Spring 23

A very sharp dark Anatase crystal with a bluish color from the classic Norwegian locality of Hardangervidda. In excellent condition and with fine luster on many of the faces. The area that holds these is quite vast but now nearly all of the well-known spots are in a National Park and no collecting has been done for many years. Although this area had some active mines long ago, the Anatase was only found in the occasional Alpine cleft and not in general mining. These crystals have been prized for well over 150 years and are in all great museums.

Tremolite
stock #21.1-038
North Gouverneur, St. Lawrence County
New York, United States
3.3 x 1.6 x 1.3 CM (thumbnail)
price: $160
Fall 22

A single terminated prism of yellow-green Tremolite from the Skarns of St. Lawrence County, NY. An older specimen collected by Skylar Alverson more than 40 years ago. Skylar had several localities he mined in this region some of which he kept secret through out his lifetime. The Tremolites of this area have become famed for the size, sharpness and overall quality of the crystals. This is a choice thumbnail with good transparency and luster.

Fluorite and Sphalerite
stock #22.1-253
Elmwood Mine, Carthage, Smith County
Tennessee, United States
2.6 x 2.2 x 2 CM (thumbnail)
price: $260
Fall 22

Blue-purple Fluorite in translucent cubes in a fine thumbnail cluster. The crystals are well perched on the contrasting Sphalerite and this glows very well when backlit. These photos were not backlit, with light above and on the sides only, so it shows how it will look in a basic display. The condition is very good, it takes a 10X loupe to find only very tiny edge/corner roughness. The stepped edges and faces give a rough texture that reflects light well. A good clean Elmwood thumbnail that is better in person.

Chalcocite - classic locality, elongated twinned crystals
stock #21.1-526
Levant Mine, Trewellard, St Just,
Cornwall, England
3.1 x 2.5 x 1.5 CM (thumbnail)
price: $280
Fall 22

An especially fine thumbnail of elongated Chalcocite crystals some showing the cogs-wheel form of twinning. From the classic Cornish locality of Levant, which operated from 1793 to 1930 which produced some of the very best of British Chalcocites. This style is quite uncommon from the mine and presents well from all sides. In excellent condition with well-defined form and esthetic composition.

SOLD Fluorite
stock #SOLD 22.1-252
Elmwood Mine, Carthage, Smith County
Tennessee, United States
2.5 x 2.3 x 1.4 CM (thumbnail)
price: $0
Fall 22

Sharp and vivid Elmwood Fluorite thumbnail in fine condition. The main cube shows the classic edge and corner growths of deeper color stepped crystal enrichment. The matrix is mostly massive Dolomite that forms the back of the specimen so the crystals are prominent from the display side. This quality is now much harder to find.

Chrysoberyl variety Alexandrite (classic Russian)
stock #22.FC-039
Malyshevo
Sverdlovsk Oblast, Russia
2 x 2 x .8 CM (thumbnail)
price: $2100
Post Tucson 2022

An unusually fine, complete and rather well-formed sixling crystal of Russian Alexandrite (Chrysoberyl). The Chromian green color is quite evident under daylight. This is classic in its form and locality, ex Eric Asselborne collection. In person this has excellent color change and with a strong light is translucent. An LED flashlight behind this shows a bright red core with a green exterior rind. Without such lighting the color is dark green and looks opaque. Most of the thin edges of this piece are sharp and well-defined though some are rough, this is far better than most specimens that have many larger edge chips or incomplete faces. A choice, classic thumbnail.

Duhamelite (Mottramite Ca and Bi) with Shattuckite
stock #21.1-531
Navojoa, Municipio de Navojoa
Sonora, Mexico
3.1 x 2.7 x 2.4 CM (thumbnail)
price: $100
Post Tucson 2022

A colorful and large thumbnail of this uncommon variety of Mottramite with both Ca and Bi. This is a variety of Mottramite and not an confirmed separate specie, but was at one time. The association of Shattuckite adds a nice color contrast. This is a relatively rich specimen of a variety usually only in micromounts. The Duhamelite can be spotted by naked eye easily but is certainly best appreciated under magnification.
