price: $480

A small but brilliant red thumbnail of gemmy Rhodochrosite from the N'Chwaning Mine (South Africa). This cluster of crystals has several perfect, complete terminations but there is some cleaving as well seen from one side. Despite many efforts to find more of this quality at the mines, nothing like these has been recovered for many years. These are highly sought after and larger examples are often priced in the mid 4 to 5 figures. This is a small but bright piece at a reasonable cost.
Euclase - included by Schorl

Alto de Giz Pegmatite, Equador, Borborema mineral province

Brazil

price: $1100

An unusual Euclase with dense inclusions of dark Schorl needles, something I have never seen before. The Euclase crystal itself is well-formed, uncleaved on the edges and fairly lustrous. This crystal also has a faint blue "racing stripe" or color zone that is running along the "C" axis of the prism which adds extra eye appeal. This crystal comes with a custom made Acrylic base that displays this at the perfect angle. In person this is a rather dull or dark without good illumination. With a backlight however this really comes alive and the bright blue zone is pronounced. Really unusual for the specie and a very choice thumbnail.

The Peridot crystals of Sappat are modern classics. This is a good thumbnail with a pair of chisel-tip crystals standing above the Peridot matrix. Some faces of these crystals are somewhat transparent while other faces are silky and less clear. Typical "melted" look on some edges and chipping noted on the base and backside, this is otherwise a clean and a very affordable gem crystal.
One of the mineral world's great classic pseudomorphs are the hexagonal Pyromorphite crystals from Kautenbach that are replaced by Galena. These are all very old, vintage specimen most having been collected more than 150 years ago. These are also usually quite expensive and not many are seen in thumbnail size. This is a much more affordable specimen than any we have ever seen offered. We must note this is small and not super perfect, there are some edge chips and rough spots but it does show the desirable form and habit of this venerable mine. A good opportunity to have a fair example of this classic for an unusually good price.

price: $250

A classic USA pseudomorph with Copper replacing an Azurite crystal rosette. This piece also has begun an alteration on the Copper as well to a Chrysocolla and Tenorite. The whole piece has an interesting softness to the Copper, it almost looks slightly melted. This still has a distinctive form and looks fine from every side. No damage, a nice example of this replacement from the aptly named Copper Rose Mine.

A single sharp and totally transparent gem crystal of Scapolite from Tanzania. Delicate yellow color and showing a well-defined termination, this is from the Marble Occurrence deposit that years ago produced some very fine crystals. In great condition, fluorescent under short wave UV and super lustrous in daylight, a small, fine gem thumbnail.

Brilliant red single Wulfenite crystal perched on a small bit of matrix. In excellent condition, no chips or damage, the color and luster are both top. Classic specimen from the last mining of this iconic locality, just a nice, clean thumbnail that shows why this mine became a legend in the mineral world.

stock #SOLD 21.1-509
White Rock Quarry, Clay Center, Ottawa County
Ohio,
United States
3 x 2.4 x 1.4 CM (thumbnail)
price: $0

Killer thumbnail (or toenail) of of a single sharp zoned Fluorite esthetically perched on a Celestite crystal. Classic association from the Clay center area (Ohio, USA), this one from the famed White Rock Quarry. Very sharp edged and with no damage, what may look like damage in the photos is mostly internal inclusions. The Fluorite crystal is a flattened cube and also fluorescent. The zoning is subtle in person, best seen when viewed straight on, but it is well-developed and the faces are very glassy in person.
