Kyanite on Quartz
stock #20.1-617
Barra do Salinas Mining District, Coronel Murta
Minas Gerais, Brazil
9 x 6.4 x 2.2 CM (cabinet)
price: $800
new year 2021

Intense bright blue crystals of Kyanite are clinging to a small matrix of Quartz and Kyanite. These crystals are transparent to translucent, they glow an intense blue with just a little backlight. The specimen is shown with a mild backlight in these photos. In excellent condition these have sharp terminations and some slight color zoning. Kyanite is not a rare mineral and quite a lot comes from Brazil, but such fine, complete undamaged crystals that are so well-positioned are quite rare. Far better impact in person, a very choice Kyanite from the find a few years ago at Barra do Salinas in Minas Gerais, Brazil.

SOLD Kyanite - radiating crystals
stock #SOLD 20.1-619
Barra do Salinas Mining District, Coronel Murta
Minas Gerais, Brazil
11.7 x 5.1 x 3.6 CM (cabinet)
price: $0
new year 2021

A radiating cluster of slender Kyanite crystals with rich deep blue color. A few tiny bits of Quartz are seen between some of the blades but this is nearly all Kyanite. The crystals are all translucent to somewhat transparent and with backlight they glow very well. There are two main types of terminations on the crystals including tapered and chisel tips. These delicate blades are held by the remaining Quartz and each other which helps keep the spray stable enough for gentle handling and shipping. More esthetic in person, this is a choice cabinet-sized Kyanite with fine display impact.

Kyanite on Quartz
stock #20.1-295
Barra do Salinas Mining District, Coronel Murta
Minas Gerais, Brazil
12.5 x 7.9 x 4.2 CM (cabinet)
price: $1200

Terminated and gemmy, bright blue Kyanite crystals are well exposed on a Quartz matrix. The Kyanites are transparent and most have a deeper blue "racing stripe" down the center of the flat blades. Many of the crystals are doubly terminated and reach 10 CM long. Kyanite is a fairly common mineral but it is certainly not common in such an esthetic, delicate array. Exceptional color and quality, it is hard to capture the luster of the crystals in photographs. When this is backlit the intense blue color is incredible.

Kyanite -gemmy crystals on Quartz
stock #16.1-630
Capelinha, Jequitinhouha Valley
Minas Gerais, Brazil
6.7 x 3.8 x 3.3 CM (cabinet)
price: $750
Spring 2020

This is not at all a typical Kyanite, the crystals are vivid blue, gem clear and are sharply terminated. Well presented on a massive Quartz matrix, these crystals are perfectly exposed and brilliant in person. With backlighting this glows an intense blue hue. Some zoning is noted with the "stripes" of clear and deep blue running along the C axis of the crystals. Huge amounts of Kyanite come out of Brazil but super gem grade display pieces are very rare, this is a superb example with a lot of display impact. Better in person.

Kyanite -gem clear crystal
stock #19.1-419
Capelinha
Minas Gerais, Brazil
7.8 x .8 x .3 CM (cabinet)
price: $350

A transparent, glassy single crystal of Kyanite on a small matrix of Quartz. Perfect, complete and very lustrous, this slender crystal comes from a well known Pegmatite and is in remarkable, undamaged condition. With even a weak backlight this glows a rich blue and looks fine from any angle. Kyanite is not a rare mineral but this quality is very uncommon and the proportions are very elegant.
