Old Mine Park, Trumbull, Fairfield County
Connecticut, United States
1.7 xx 1.2 x 1 CM (thumbnail)

Pre Tucson

An unusually distinct and sharp Ferberite that has completely replaced the original Scheelite crystal, retaining the original shape perfectly. From the classic locality at Trumbull, Connecticut that was worked at various time going back to the early 1800's. The entire area is now a park and collecting is not permitted. The locality was the first to be operated for Tungsten in North America and it seems was the first site where Tungsten ore was found in the Americas. The Ferberite here is all tested as nearly pure Fe type (Ferberite). This crystal is unusually sharp and has a tiny bit of adhering mica. A choice old classic USA pseudomorph.

Yaogangxian Mine, Yizhang County, Chenzhou Pref.
Hunan Province, China
5.6 x 4.2 x 3.9 CM (cabinet)
price: $440
Spring 2019

A wonderful multi-specie specimen from the golden period of the great Yaogangxian mine. In fine condition, this is both esthetic and mineralogically complex. A complete label would have a long list including Ferberite, Stannite, Muscovite, Scheelite, Quartz, Fluorite, Dolomite and probably Wurtzite. The Ferberite is the dominent specie and is well defined, sharp and seems to be twinned. The Stannite crystals are numerous in clusters that covers an area over 3 CM across. The luster and overall composition makes this an especially choice piece. Displays well from several angles.

Ferberite (rosette) and Quartz etc.
stock #8.1-088
Yaogangxian Mine, Yizhang County, Chenzhou Pref.
Hunan Province, China
5.5 x 4.4 x 3.9 CM (small cabinet/ large miniature)
price: $425

A 360 degree specimen hosting a delicate cluster of Ferberite crystals pointing in all directions and slender Quartz prisms. Very tiny Muscovite and a few Scheelites are also on the piece as is typical from Yaogangxian where complex multi specie specimens were typical. The longest slender Quartz is 4.2 CM and doubly terminated. Some contacting that is not very noticeable, several terminations are a ragged, complex type that adds some esthetic complexity. Very displayable and a choice piece from the locale.

Fluorite, Ferberite on Quartz with Muscovite and Arsenopyrite
stock #AX-15-246
Yaogangxian Mine, Yizhang County, Chenzhou Pref.
Hunan Province, China
6.7 x 5.2 x 4.3 CM (cabinet)
price: $375
Worldwide mix summer

A choice multi-specie specimen from Yaoganxian, ex Shields Flynn collection. The Quartz in person is very clear, has a sharp termination and you can see Ferberite and Muscovite inside. There are unknown white inclusions inside as well. The Ferberite is lustrous, and the Fluorite is transparent as it should be. Not perfect however, when seen under 10x magnification there are rough spots and the smaller Feberite has chipping, but the overall quality is far better than average and this has the sort of esthetics that displays very well. The price reflects the imperfections which for many collectors makes this a very good value.

Ferberite & Dolomite

Yaogangxian Mine, Yizhang County, Chenzhou Pref.
Hunan Province, China
5.3 x 3.3 x 3.8 cm (cabinet)

Winter 2016-17

Lustrous black Ferberite crystals with sharp terminations contrast with the snow white Dolomite crystals. A nicely composed cluster that looks great from many angles. All the main crystals are in fine condition, there is a contact on one lower side edge that is not seen on display.
