stock #19.1-341
Conselheiro Pena, Doce Valley
Minas Gerais,
Brazil
3.8 x 2.6 x 2.8 CM (miniature)
price: $220
An older specimen originally labelled as "Herderite" but without analysis it is more likely to be Hydroxylherderite. Either way this is a nicely crystalized Herderite series piece with 3 main crystals in a cluster, the largest being 2.6 CM. The crystals have glassy exteriors, are translucent and with strong backlighting show zoning with a darker orange core and lighter yellow exterior. Some minor contacts but no damage or bruises. Some thin cracks are seen in a few crystal faces these appear to be partly recrystallized under d magnification. There are no repairs, the specimen is solid and stable.

Spring update
A superb large euhedral crystal (7.8 CM tall) dominates a cluster of smaller crystals. Sharp, complete all around and undamaged, this is an incredible example from the famous Linopolis find thirty years ago. Micro crystals of some unidentified Phosphates are also scattered on the specimen and add a little sparkle. Ex Charles Noll collection, the original label call this Herderite as these wwere known then, now understood to be Hydroxlherderite. Most faces show a glassy luster and are transparent in parts. The color of Hydroxylherderite from here can vary widely, this one is mostly light violet-purple but with some zones of greenish, grey and orange. Display well from all sides and the main crystal is textbook quality. These only appear now from old collections like this.
From the late 1990s vintage finds, a very distinctive, doubly terminated gem crystal perched on a crystal section of Microcline. The 3 CM long Herderite is in perfect condition and shows textbook form. Excellent esthetics and a slight color change from blueish to greenish in different light sources. A far better than average piece, and there has been nothing new on the market for several years.
