Andradite - Demantoid
stock #22.1-696
Black Lake, Thetford Mines, Les Appalaches, RCM
Quebec, Canada
5.5 x 5.3 x 23.1 CM (small cabinet/ large miniature)
price: $550
Pre Tucson

A fine mint green Garnet crystal with the unusual and quite rare flattened habit sits atop the matrix of druzy Andradites. The main crystal is just over 1.1 CM across and is complete, undamaged and in tabular form. From the finds at Black Lake (Quebec, Canada) about 20 years ago, this is far above the average quality known from this important locality. Black Lake Quarry was not very far from the larger and more famed Jeffrey Mine, but had a somewhat different mineralization. More Andradite than Grossular Garnets are known from here and the predominant color was green Demantoid. Good specimens of this quality are quite rare on the market, much less common than Jeffrey Garnet. In excellent condition.

Andradite
stock #13.1-260
Sadiola Mine
Kayes Region, Mali
5.6 x 4.9 x 4.2 CM (cabinet)
price: $390
new year 2021

Very sharp and perfectly formed Andradite Garnets from the famous Mali finds. This specimen was one of a very small number selected from a large lot. A small percentage of these garnets can show very fine perfection and overall esthetics that makes them world class for the specie. This specimen has a dark brown mahogany color and is translucent on the crystal edges. In outstanding condition, the underside is the area of removal but the top and sides are perfectly clean, undamaged.

Andradite and Quartz on Hedenbergite
stock #19.1-559
Serifos Island, Cyclade Islands
South Aegean, Greece
5.7 x 3.8 x 2.9 CM (cabinet)
price: $975
new year 2021

Outstanding and unique esthetics, a super combination specimen from this classic locale, Serifos Island. Slender doubly terminated branching Quartz crystals sprout from Garnet crystals that are perched on Hedenbergite. In exceptional condition this is impressive from every angle. Hard to describe but the photos give a good idea of the arrangement. There is no damage which is just incredible for such a delicate piece.

Andradite
stock #19.1-510
Sinerechenskoe Skarn,
Primorsky Kray, Russia
6.9 x 4.1 x 2.4 CM (cabinet)
price: $120
Spring 2020

Dark but gemmy Andradite Garnets well exposed on the matrix. The color is a dark red but with strong lighting an oil green to yellow color is seen on some crystals. This locality is well known for the great Quartz crystals often included by Hedenbergite, but the Garnets are also quite choice. These are arranged in both tight clusters and also more isolated. In person the luster is excellent, bright and glassy. Some small rough edges and contacts but overall in very nice condition.

Vesuvianite - classic locale
stock #16.1-697-(stk)
Dognaczka, Banat Mountains
Caras Severin Co., Romania
6.4 x 4.6 x 4.8 CM (cabinet)
price: $220
Spring 2020

Glassy isolated crystals of Vesuvianite with some Calcite presenting several habits. Some crystals reach to 2.1 CM. An older specimen dating back to the era when this was part of Hungary.

Andradite- Ex Carter Rich
stock #16.1-126
Nance Pegmatite mine, Moneta Forest, Bedford County
Virginia, United States
3.2 x 3.6 x 2.5 CM (miniature)
price: $290
Spring 2020

A single crystal of Andradite Garnet from this little known Virginia locality. Ex Carter Rich specimen, it is rare to see any good pegmatite specimens from this area of Virginia. The crystal is about 70% complete, there is a contact area on one edge and backside but from the front side most faces are sharp and show good form. Cater had offered this specimen for sale in 2009 for 550.00 he considered it significant.

Andradite (var. polyadelphite)
stock #19.1-516
Franklin/ Sterling Hill
New Jersey, United States
4.8 x 4.1 x 3.8 CM (miniature)
price: $290
Spring 2020

Sharp Franklin New Jersey Garnets with the Orange-Brown color that was once called Polyadelphite. This is a Mg rich type of Andradite, but it is not recognized as a separate specie and the name is not used as much now. This is an old specimen, there are several collection numbers and one handwritten label attached. The main Garnet is 2.3 cm across, the form is quite good and relatively complete for one of these. Classic Franklin material this looks like others I have seen from the Buckwheat but there is no further information. A choice Franklin crystal.

Andradite- gemmy, older specimen
stock #18.1-270

Veracruz, Mexico
2.8 x 2.7 x 1.6 CM (thumbnail)
price: $130
Worldwide mix summer

A bright and attractive thumbnail of gem clear Garnets from Vera Cruz that was added to the Les Hitchings collection in 1983. This is an almost perfect match to the look of the new find of Andradites from Vera Cruz in 2016. The new find was very big news since no one had ever seen such fine garnets from that area, and there was speculation that they came from elsewhere, no exact locality was given. The new find was quickly exhausted but this specimen shows that area has in the past produced some very pretty Andradite, and perhaps it will again someday.
