Elbaite with Lepidolite
stock #AX-30-023
Himalaya Mine, Gem Hill,Mesa Grande District, San Diego County
California, United States
5.6 x 1.4 x 1.1 CM (miniature)
price: $1850

Unusually clear gem grade and with much better than usual color intensity. This is the classic look and habit of the Himalaya mine, but in exceptional condition and quality. No repairs and very close to perfect condition damage-wise (just one chip about .5 millimeter that is clearly not distracting or easy to see). This is an old specimen, far better in person, and far better than most of this size and type.

Elbaite
stock #AX-30-022
Jonas Mine, Itatiaia District, Conselheiro, Doce Valley
Minas Gerais, Brazil
4.6 x 1.2 x 1.6 CM (miniature)
price: $2600
pre Tucson 2015 update

Jonas Tourmaline is one of the most sought after gem crystal specimens and usually very expensive. This is a richly colored Elbaite, a little different from most Jonas pieces, it looks quite similar to some Cruzieros. This was part of a small suite of verified Jonas specimens and was unique in the parcel. The color at the termination end is deep intense red as would be expected, but the zoning is much rarer. The clarity is gem grade and the small side crystal is a nice esthetic addition. No damage at all, there is a contact one one side face that is not seen from any logical display angle. A fine, classic locale tourmaline with top color and quality.

Elbaite - ex Herb Obodda collection
stock #AX-30-020
Mawi Pegmatite
Nuristan, Afghanistan
3.8 x .7 x .7 CM (miniature)
price: $1200
pre Tucson 2015 update

Superb. A sharp, gem clear multi-colored Tourmaline crystal in perfect condition from the early finds in Afghanistan. Not much else to say, the photos show it well. This quality is now very rare and hard to find at any price. The central green zone is a rich vivid color, not like the pastel hue that was typical from later finds in Paprok. Far better in person.

Elbaite on Albite
stock #A7-153-(498)
Gilgit, Gilgit district
Northern Areas, Pakistan
4 x 3.2 x 2.2 CM (miniature)
price: $325
pre Tucson 2015 update

A very cute small specimen with sharp Tourmalines that grade from a bottle-green to colorless at the termination. Nice esthetics and fine form. There is no damage at all on the display side. A tiny chip on a small crystal on the back of the piece that can not be seen is the only issue to mention and it is quite minor. The contrast with the feldspar is great, this is a vintage 1980's piece ex Larry White Collection.

Elbaite on Quartz
stock #7.1-009
Chamachu, Haramoush Mts.
Baltistan, Northern Areas, Pakistan
9.1 x 5 x 6 CM (cabinet)
price: $490
pre Tucson 2015 update

A big, clear to milky terminated Quartz crystal is the host for two color zoned Elbaite tourmalines that are both doubly terminated. The Elbaites are undamaged and each shows two different habits of termination. An early Skardu piece, this style just is not found anymore.

Elbaite -rare fibrous-zoned Achroite, Verdelite and Indicolite crystal
stock #A7-150-(504)
Aracuai, Jequitinhonha Valley
Minas Gerais, Brazil
3.9 x 1.9 x 1.9 CM (miniature)
price: $380
pre Tucson 2015 update

An very unusual older specimen from a find in the 1970's at Aracuai. The tourmaline crystal is both etched and prismatic with a large fibrous zone in the middle. The color zoning is unusual and includes the uncommon colorless (Achroite) variety. Ex Larry White collection, this is an attractive oddity and very different from other finds of fibrous Tourmalines. In good but not perfect condition, there is contacting and chips but not badly noticeable from some angles.

Elbaite (pencil Tourmaline) on Quartz
stock #10.1-202
Paprok, Kamdesh District
Nuristan, Afghanistan
6.8 x 5.7 x 2.6 CM (cabinet)
price: $1480
Spring 2014

A remarkable, fine small cabinet with an elegant form. A sharp, gemmy 5.7 CM long Elbaite crystal impales a quartz crystal at an angle thrusting its termination into the air. The Tourmaline shows good zoning from green to pink at the tip and has a colorless zone as well. From 2006 season mining in Paprok, there were not many like this found then and none since. The main Elbaite is in excellent condition damage-wise, the quartz is contacted on the back with some tiny broken Elbaites that are not so evident. All in all this displays very well and is a welcomed change from the "same old" esthetic of most Tourmalines!

Elbaite (unusual multi-color tourmaline)
stock #A7-158-(534)
Himalaya Mine, Gem Hill,Mesa Grande District, San Diego County
California, United States
4.8 x .8 CM (miniature)
price: $270
Spring 2014

An older stacked growth multi-color crystal cluster ex Larry White collection. There are several individual terminations on this piece and all are perfect, undamaged. With good magnification it is also possible to see several tiny side car crystals that have blue terminations! The color sequence and habit is unusual for the Himalaya mine, the blue terminations however are distinctive. This specimen is at least 45 years old.
