Calcite with Chalcopyrite - USA Classic
stock #21.1-069
Bethel Level, Annabel Lee Mine, Ozark-Mahoning Co.
Illinois, United States
6.7 x 6.7 4.3 CM (cabinet)
price: $80

Calcite crystals in modified rhombs from the Fluorospar region of Illinois. These are dusted with sparkling crystals of Chalcopyrite and have an epitaxial alignment. In very good condition, most of the crystals are perfect and damage-free. The specimen has a small break on the underside where it was removed and some tiny rough spots (.5 mm) are seen with a loupe. An old label from Ross Lillie (North Star Minerals) is with this piece.

Celestite on Calcite
stock #AX-7-024-(294)
Cave-in-Rock, Hardin County
Illinois, United States
3.9 x 2.6 x 2.3 CM (small miniature)
price: $180
new year 2021

A small but very esthetic specimen from the prolific Fluorospar region of Southern Illinois. Ex. Larry White collection, the Celestite (or Celestine for many) is a terminated flat prism set on light yellow Calcites. Unusual in its composition, this piece has considerable display impact despite the small size and is in excellent condition. This zone produced many thousands of great Fluorite specimens but very few good Celestites were saved.

Fluorite - USA classic locale
stock #20.1-919
Minerva Mine #1, Rosiclare Level, Cave in Rock
Illinois, United States
4.1 x 3.8 x 3.1 CM (miniature)
price: $320
new year 2021

A crisp blue Fluorite from the Minerva Mine, Cave in Rock, Illinois. This specimen hosts a small cube that is perfectly transparent and has a tiny wisp of purple color seen only on one face. The larger cube has a milky yellow core and a pale blue edge. The specimen is not perfect with some contacts and bruising but this still looks fine from some angles. The color of the sharp transparent cube is quite choice for the locale. Gemmy blue Fluorite is one of the more desired and sought after Southern Illinois Fluorites. Ex L Sweetman collection, this is a 1950-mid 60's era specimen and it does look different from the finds of the eighties and 90's.

Fluorite - zoned with hoppered faces
stock #15.1-028
Cave-in-Rock, Hardin County
Illinois, United States
5.7 x 4.8 x 4 CM (cabinet)
price: $440
new year 2021

A classic purple, blue, yellow Fluorite with well-defined sharp cubes in a cluster. Some of the square faces of the cubes have distinct geometric voids or hoppers with complex cubic forms. This Fluorite looks dark without some backlighting (see the second photo) but the effect of that backlight brings out excellent color zoning, The cubes are complete, glassy and in very good condition, some faces are perfectly flat as well. From the Cave in Rock area of Southern Illinois, this is a very pretty yet affordable dark Fluorite with great colors hiding inside.

Calcite with Fluorite
stock #20.1-256-(1080)
Denton Mine, Harris Creek Sub District, Hardin County
Illinois, United States
6.8 x 4.9 x 3.8 (cabinet)
price: $330
new year 2021

A southern Illinois classic, a mass of transparent, gemmy Calcite crystals are the sparkling background to some small purple to blue Fluorites. The bright luster of these Calcites are hard to appreciate in photos but in person the visual impact is strong. This choice Denton Mine specimen is from the collection of Les Hitchings which he obtained in 1992, from the last period of mining there which produced some exceptional Calcites.

Fluorite - zoned classic USA
stock #15.1-036
Minerva #1 Mine, Cave-in-Rock, Hardin County
Illinois, United States
7.2 x 4.8 x 2.3 CM (cabinet)
price: $180
new year 2021

A small cabinet specimen of Fluorite that is mostly yellow but with light blue and purple edges on selected crystals. Nice face structures and etching that is classic for the locale. No matrix except for Fluorite so the whole specimen is translucent and glows well with backlight. Overall in fine condition, there is almost no bruising, but under magnification some tiny bits are noted. Nearly every Fluorite from this region under close inspection has some sort of damage but this is far better than usual, and a relative great value.

Wurtzite - very unusual locale and form
stock #19.1-339
Blackjack Mine, Galena District, Jo Daviess County
Illinois, United States
5.3 x 4 x 2.7 CM (cabinet)
price: $440
new year 2021

A very unusual piece unlike typical Wurtzite and from a locale that is not known for the specie. This piece comes from the Fred Meisner collection, the original label is dated 1943. The balls of radiating translucent crystals of Wurtzite are similar to some rare pieces found long ago in the Tri-state Lead-Zinc District, but these are from the Galena, Illinois area. These are also more translucent and a bit more distinct than the Tri-state pieces with a marked resinous luster. With good magnification the elongate nature of the individual crystals is evident. A significant piece for the locality and a nice Wurtzite of this habit.

Fluorite - etched plate
stock #15.1-582
Minerva #1 Mine, Cave-in-Rock, Hardin County
Illinois, United States
7.2 x 6.5 x 2.4 CM (cabinet)
price: $290
new year 2021

Orange-yellow color Fluorite crystals with a few purple edges from Southern Illinois. The crystals have some amount of etching on some faces while others are smooth and glassy. Minimal rough spots, though not perfect the overall condition and color are choice. One of the more rare colors for an Illinois Fluorite, this piece dates to the 1960's.
