Elbaite
stock #20.1-279
Santa Rosa Mine, Itambacuri
Minas Gerais, Brazil
2.6 x 1.3 x 1.3 CM (thumbnail)
price: $80
new year 2021

A zoned green flat top terminated Elbaite crystal from old finds at Santa Rosa. The crystal has good glassy luster, moderate transparency and only one small .5 mm chip. Weighs 7.4 Grams, this is priced below typical market rates. Pretty, affordable tourmaline that glows well when backlit.

Fluorapatite with Elbaite
stock #20.1-085
Pederneira Mine, Sao Jose da Safira, Doce Valley
Minas Gerais, Brazil
6.3 x 4.3 x 4.7 CM (cabinet)
price: $1650
new year 2021

A very fine, super colorful and very unusual Apatite from the famed Pederneira Mine. The Apatite crystals show several generations of growth and color zoning quite different from the tourmaline the mine is famed for. This specimen also has a bi-colored, doubly terminated Elbaite crystal on the backside that is 4.7 CM long, a nice addition. The Apatites have sharp flat terminations and colors zones in purple, blue, orange-red and some dark green. These also show well some selective growth and etching with areas of re-crystallization. This makes for a complex and especially interesting presentation that looks fine from several angles. Excellent condition with no damage, this is the best Apatite I have seen from Pederneira, and would be a fine piece from anyplace. Vividly fluorescent with a zoned responses corresponding with the daylight color areas.

Brazilianite with Cleavelandite
stock #8.1-284
Telirio Claim, Linopolis, Divino das Laranjeiras, Doce Valley
Minas Gerais, Brazil
5.7 x 5.4 x 3.7 CM (cabinet)
price: $2600
new year 2021

Large, textbook perfect and lustrous Brazilianite from the find in 2009 at Telirio. This is a cluster of fine, green to yellow colored Brazilianites with the largest crystal 4.5 CM tall and relatively thick. The condition is perfect and the specimen can display well from several angles. Most pieces of this find were the more common slender habit but there were a few that had this fatter form looking more like the very early finds decades ago. This piece has that form and the crystals are all fully transparent. In person the color is a bit more vivid and with super glassy luster. Sourced in Brazil at the time of the find from the late Dr. Luis Menezes. Luis was an amazing mineralogist and the man responsible for many of the greatest Brazilian specimens for decades.

Beryl var. Aquamarine
stock #20.1-341
Governador Valadares, Doce Valley
Minas Gerais, Brazil
2.7 x 2.2 x 1.5 CM (thumbnail)
price: $90
new year 2021

A clean and very lustrous gem crystal with a well-defined form. An older Brazilian piece with an unusual habit that is quite different from the typical elongated hexagon. Not super perfect under close inspection as there are some tiny edge nicks, but this still looks fine and has nice color, transparency and crystal form.

Kyanite on Quartz
stock #20.1-617
Barra do Salinas Mining District, Coronel Murta
Minas Gerais, Brazil
9 x 6.4 x 2.2 CM (cabinet)
price: $800
new year 2021

Intense bright blue crystals of Kyanite are clinging to a small matrix of Quartz and Kyanite. These crystals are transparent to translucent, they glow an intense blue with just a little backlight. The specimen is shown with a mild backlight in these photos. In excellent condition these have sharp terminations and some slight color zoning. Kyanite is not a rare mineral and quite a lot comes from Brazil, but such fine, complete undamaged crystals that are so well-positioned are quite rare. Far better impact in person, a very choice Kyanite from the find a few years ago at Barra do Salinas in Minas Gerais, Brazil.

Epidote
stock #14.1-380
Capelinha
Minas Gerais, Brazil
4.6 x 3.5 x 1.4 CM (miniature)
price: $300
new year 2021

A pair of fine, sharp and lustrous crystals of Epidote from Capelinha in Brazil. Most of the Epidote we see from Brazil is a more fibrous habit, this prismatic specimen is the best formed I have ever seen. Textbook perfect crystals with well-defined terminations and on the backside a few clusters of small Quartz crystals. Overall in excellent condition as seen, the faces are either well-striated or perfectly flat, mirror-like and brilliantly lustrous. The sharpness and quality of this could easily be confused with a fine Alaskan Epidote.

SOLD Topaz - Imperial with rare hematite zone
stock #SOLD 17.1-176
Antonio Pereira Mine, Ouro Preto
Minas Gerais, Brazil
6.3 x 1 x .7 CM (cabinet)
price: $0
new year 2021

A long, slender perfectly terminated crystal of Imperial Topaz from the famed Ouro Preto locale. This has the rare zoned inclusion of Hematite inside the lower portions of the crystal. In person the top section is bright, gemmy transparent and very glassy. The lower section is also gemmy in some spots and on the edges, but the dark inclusions are opaque in the center. In exceptional, undamaged condition, this color zoning is rare and this piece is an excellent example. Imperial Topaz is unique to this area, the form and color is classic. While inclusions are not that uncommon from here, these "bi-color" crystals are remarkable, rare and impressive.

SOLD Lepidolite with Muscovite core
stock #SOLD 16.1-751
Aracuai, Jequitinhonha Valley
Minas Gerais, Brazil
9 x 5.7 x .4 CM (cabinet)
price: $0
new year 2021

An oddity, this is an attractive well-formed Mica crystal with fine zoning and a sharp transparent window in the core. The outer zone of Lepidolite is a rose purple and shows thin color bands when backlit. This piece is from a small lot that arrived in 2017 and I have not seen anything like this since.
