Ferro-Axinite
stock #19.1-795
Raipa Mine, Aija Province
Ancash Department, Peru
7.7 x 3.9 x 3.3 CM (cabinet)
price: $740

Superb cluster of classic form Axinite crystals with no matrix at all. The largest crystal here is about 6 CM long and the condition of all is excellent, with no damage. These are translucent with a few areas of transparency and the luster is very glassy. The purplish-brown color is distinctive from this find and this is an excellent esthetic cluster with many perfect, choice crystals in all directions. This was a large and important discovery which has provided some excellent quality pieces that were relatively affordable. Excellent value.

Barite on Malachite
stock #14.1-335
Shangulowe Mine, Kambove District
Lualaba Province, Democratic Republic of Congo (Zaire)
3.7 x 3.1 x 2.1 CM (miniature)
price: $330

A pair of chisel tipped Barite crystals perched on a velvety green Malachite. The Barite crystals have some inclusions of Malachite as well which gives some green color to the milky prism. Classic material from the 1970-80 era, these Barites are unique and are no longer being found. Very good condition and quite attractive, a very unusual association that is a modern classic.

Vanadinite -New find
stock #19.1-622
San Carlos Mine, Municipio de Maunuel Benavidas
Chihuahua, Mexico
5.7 x 5.2 x 3.4 CM (cabinet)
price: $1100

This year there was a major find of exceptional Vanadinites at the San Carlos Mine (Chihuahua, Mexico). A small number of superb pieces with great form, color and luster are now considered to be the best Vanadinites ever found in Mexico and for that matter in North America. This is one of those fine pieces with perfect, sharp free standing hexagons and some color zoning. Most of the terminations are flat but a few show minor hoppering. In fine condition overall, the major crystals are all pristine. The area where these were found was quickly mined out and there will be no more. Choice and very attractive, destined to be a highly desirable Mexican classic.

Elbaite -gem clear crystal
stock #18.1-337
Pederniera Claim, Sao Jose da Safira, Doce Valley
Minas Gerais, Brazil
4.2 x .8 x .5 CM (miniature)
price: $220

A clear sharp pair of parallel crystals with slight hint of zoning. Pretty much all gem grade, undamaged and cleanly terminated, this is an affordable and attractive Tourmaline. Since the crystals are rather flat they also transmit light well and are brilliant with any backlight. From finds at the famed Pederneira in 2009.

Fluorite on needle Quartz
stock #19.1-761
Dalnegorsk, Kavalerovo Mining District
Primorsky Kray, Far Eastern Region, Russia
9.7 x 7.8 x 6.1 CM (cabinet)
price: $330

The legendary Dalgngorsk deposits occasionally yield a modified cubo-octahedral Fluorite with ice clear windows. These are sometimes sitting on a nest of contrasting opaque slender quartz Tessin habit crystals. This is an choice example of this sort that is far better in person.

Cerussite
stock #18.1-349
Grand Reef Mine - Graham County
Arizona, United States
4.1 x 2.9 x 1.8 CM (miniature)
price: $50

A miniature from the Grand Reef Mine hosting milky white Cerussites with the habit that looks much like a doubly terminated Quartz. The Cerussites are on a typical druzy Quartz matrix and are in very good condition. A nice locality piece, the Grand Reef Mine is well respected as a source of some uncommon Lead secondary minerals.

Grossular (Andradite) on Blue Calcite
stock #16.1-1278
Dognaczka, Banat Mountains
Caras Severin Co., Hungary
8.3 x 6.2 x 3.8 CM (cabinet)
price: $250

Classic locality specimen with well formed Garnets up to 1.9 CM across. These brown crystals contrast well with a blue Calcite and Feldspar matrix. This locality has produced both Adradite and Grossular in the skarn and this was previously identified as Grossular but it likely is zoned and has at least some Andradite. The main crystals are complete and in undamaged condition. There are some smaller and one has damage though it is not distracting. The matrix on this is especially nice and the isolation of the crystals is far better than any other I have seen .

Rhodochrosite -elongated Scalenohedral habit
stock #AX-10-930
Uchucchacua Mine, Oyon Province
Lima Department, Peru
4.8 x 2.3 x 1.6 CM (miniature)
price: $490

Gem clear, bright and lustrous Rhodochrosite crystals from the now classic Uchucchacua Mine in Peru. The main crystal on the matrix is just over 2 CM long and there are several other smaller crystals as well. Protected in a narrow vug the main crystal is quite perfect and damage free. While Rhodochrosite can be found all over the world there are no more than 3 places that have ever produced crystals of this size, quality and habit. Of those localities Uchucchuacua is the only place that still is an occasional producer. Well beyond average quality yet still relatively affordable for a fine Rhodo.
