Skutterudite with Erythrite and Bieberite? - classic locale
stock #0093-JM-1160
Bieber, Biebergemunde, Main-Kinzig-Kreis, Darmstadt
Hesse, Germany
6.4 x 4.6 x 3.7 CM (cabinet)
price: $250
new year 2021

A rich nearly pure mass of small crystals of what once called Smaltite with several zones of earthy purplish Erythrite and a powdery pink mineral that seems to be Bieberite but is not analized. The specimen comes with an old Neree Boubee (Paris, France) label and one from the John Marshall collection. An old collection numbers and handwritten labels are also attached to the underside but are not visible on display. In very good condition with the many cubic Skutterudite crystals in stacks and aligned groups.

Copper crystals - elongated spinel twins
stock #19.1-798
Santa Rita, Grant County
New Mexico, United States
3.2 x 1.7 x 1.3 CM (thumbnail)
price: $290
new year 2021

A pure mass of Copper, fully crystallized with a red patina and very sharp. Twinning is clearly seen as are the extended edges and hoppering on some crystals. No damage, a nice large thumbnail from the Santa Rita Mine of New Mexico.

Silver - crystals and wires with Calcite
stock #18.1-265
Batopilas, Andres del Rio District
Chihuahua, Mexico
3.4 x 2.1 x 1.3 CM (miniature)
price: $190
new year 2021

A mix of jumbled wires and elongated crystals of Silver with some chunks of Calcite enclosing some of the wires. From Batopilas, a famed old Silver mine in Northern Mexico. The locality is known for the herringbone habit of crystals but other habits like these are known too. The larger crystals here have a more metallic patina than the wires and seem to be elongated octahedra with sharply pointed terminations.

Fluorite - modified and aligned cubo-octahedral crystals
stock #AX-14-345
Orange River, Namakwa
Northern Cape Province, South Africa
2.9 x 2.2 x 1.8 CM (thumbnail)
price: $160
new year 2021

Dark purple Fluorite crystals that are translucent to transparent in strong lighting. A somewhat unusual locality better known for the red and orange Quartz crystals this is a nice example of this habit. The crystals are edge-modified cubes (cubo-octahedral) aligned with each other. There is no matrix except Flourite which has tiny stepped voids in the flat surfaces. The back and one side are incomplete, the front facing (display face) side is in fine undamaged condition.

Hemimorphite
stock #13.1-342
79 Mine, Hayden, Banner District, Gila County
Arizona, United States
5.7 x 2.7 x 2 CM (cabinet)
price: $50
new year 2021

A knobby growth of light blue-green Hemimorphite that has encrusted the matrix on all sides. The surface is fully covered by small sparkling crystals which are translucent and quite lustrous. From the 79 Mine, a well-known locality for fine Smithsonite and Wulfenite but which is also home to a wide array of Lead, Copper and Zinc minerals.

Galena - spinel twins, USA
stock #20.1-594
Fletcher Mine, Big Bear orebody, Vibernum Trend, Reynolds County
Missouri, United States
6.1 x 4.4 x 3.8 CM (cabinet)
price: $380
new year 2021

A flat habit spinel twinned Galena perched on Dolomite, Chalcopyrite etc. From the Fletcher Mine (Missouri, USA) the Galena is perfect, undamaged and huge for the mine at over 4 CM across. it is very unusual to see from the USA, there have been a few US finds of these over the past decade but never many. The Fletcher Mine is perhaps the most important locality for these twins and this specimen is top notch for the locale based on crystal size and esthetics. In person there is a slight iridescent patina and a slight golden hue mixed with a gunmetal silver.

Kunzite - etched floater crystal
stock #20.1-119
Laghman
Laghman Province, Afghanistan
6.4 x 4.1 x 1.7 CM (cabinet)
price: $380
new year 2021

A nice bit of natural mineral sculpture. This single gem crystal is doubly terminated with the "jagged mountain peak" habit and is beautifully etched. The whole has been completely recrystallized and is a perfect floater, there is no damage. Fully transparent with striated prism faces, this looks great from any angle and of course has the strong dichroism that this type of Spodumene is known for.

Fluorite - spinel twins and chain growths
stock #17.1-308
Hohenstein Massif, Omaruru District
Erongo Region, Namibia
9.3 x 4.2 x 2.4 CM (cabinet)
price: $550
new year 2021

A crazy unusual Fluorite that has an incredible odd crystallization. The whole piece is a mixture of slightly twisting "strands" of linked chain-like growths of crystals that looks "melted". Some of the strands host larger, textbook examples of spinel-twinned Fluorites some of which are color zoned. The whole mass is transparent to translucent, and when backlit is a mixture of purple, green and yellowish colors. This was found on the Hohenstein Massif in Erongo in 2017, part of a small pocket of very strange yet beautiful(to me, at least) Fluorites. This is a complex specimen, interesting from most any angle, very hard to describe but for any lover of Fluorite this is a amazing piece.
