Quartz - gem
stock #20.1-308-(LW328)
Lasselville, Town of Ephratah, Fulton County
New York, United States
1.8 x 1.4 x 1.2 CM (thumbnail)
price: $130
new year 2021

A perfect thumbnail of gem-clear Quartz with a form that looks a lot like a Herkimer Diamond but is from the less well-known locality of Lasselville in Fulton County, NY. No damage, with fine esthetics, collected in 1972 by Larry White. This had been in his thumbnail collection for more than 40 years.

Grossular - gem clear, with Diopside inclusions
stock #20.1-307-(LW461)
Jeffrey Mine, Asbestos
Quebec, Canada
1.6 x 1.4 x 1.3 CM (thumbnail)
price: $450
new year 2021

Grossular from Jeffrey Mine that is transparent, has fine orange color and has several slender crystals of Diopside seen inside the Garnet. Aside from some very small contacts and rough edges this is in fine condition. The luster is glass-like and this crystal has very few striations on the large faces which makes it easy to see through these windows into the crystal. Ex Larry White thumbnail collection, he obtained this in the early 80's when the mine was still active and great things were being found.

Silver and Copper (halfbreed)
stock #14.1-269
Caledonia Mine, Mass City, Ontonagon County
Michigan, United States
2.2 x 1.7 x 1.2 CM (thumbnail)
price: $110
new year 2021

A US classic a choice Halfbreed of Silver and Copper that shows perfectly the two metallic colors with very bright luster. Looks fine on all sides, the Halfbreed masses from this region are unlike anything from other places. The copper mined in the Upper Pennisula of Michigan tended to have some small percentage of Silver mixed in. This was especially desirable in the early manufacturing of electrical wires.

Copper - spinel twin
stock #20.1-304-(LW631)
Ray Mine, Ray District, Dripping Springs Mountain, Pinal county
Arizona, United States
2.8 x .9 x .5 CM (thumbnail)
price: $90
new year 2021

Slender, elongated spinel twins of Copper from this classic USA locality. This looks fine from all angles; it comes from the Larry White thumbnail collection. A good example for the location and a choice thumbnail.

Copper - branching crystals
stock #20.1-305-(LW1019)
Santa Rita, Grant County
New Mexico, United States
3.3 x 2.6 x 1.2 CM (small miniature/ large thumbnail (toenail))
price: $65
new year 2021

A complex branching Copper specimen composed of many small crystals in stacked or aligned arrangements. Good patina, the color ranges from a dark that is almost black to a red copper hue. A multitude of tiny crystals in many divergent habits are best appreciated under magnification.

Schorl with Cleavelandite
stock #20.1-299-(LW1122)
Urucum Mine, Galileia
Minas Gerais, Brazil
3.4 x 2.6 x 1.7 CM (thumbnail)
price: $80
new year 2021

A "candelabra" style specimen of slender Tourmalines in a pretty arrangement offset by well-crystallized Cleavelandite. This will fit in a thumbnail box (barely) and has very nice contrast. Originally labeled as an Elbaite, but on close study it is a Schorl. Ex Larry White collection he obtained it from the Brauns in 1975. I do not see many attractive Schorl of this sort and never in thumbnail size. While not a rare specie it is surprisingly rare to see in thumbnail collections.

Chrysoberyl - gemmy twin crystal, Northeastern USA
stock #20.1-300-(LW380)
Ragged Ass Jack Mountain, Hartford, Oxford County
Maine, United States
1.7 x 1.5 x .3 CM (thumbnail)
price: $390
new year 2021

Classic form Chrysoberyl from the Ragged Ass Jack Mountain find in Maine, USA. This is a complete crystal, fully transparent and with nice color. The twinning can be clearly seen by the distinct striations. This thumbnail is from the Larry White collection which he obtained almost 50 years ago from Phil Scalisi who in turn got this from the Grace Dearborn collection. For this locality the quality and condition is super, a few larger crystals are known but those are far less sharp, gemmy and complete. A rare and choice USA Thumbnail and a fine Oxford County, Maine piece as well.

Beryl var. Emerald
stock #20.1-301-(LW1367)
Muzo Mine, Muzo, Municipio de Muzo
Boyacá, Colombia
1.2 x 1.1 x .8 CM (thumbnail)
price: $180
new year 2021

A single Emerald from the famed Muzo Mine, this is a gemmy hexagonal crystal with good green color. The crystal has some breakage mostly on the back and lower areas, some scuffs as well as a few inclusions. That said, it is a terminated crystal and a genuine transparent Emerald. Perfection in Emeralds is crazy rare and insanely expensive. This is a cute though not perfect thumbnail at 9.4 carats and is priced below the usual rate for this grade of rough.
