Cerussite - V twins with cat's-eye
stock #21.1-325
Touissit, Touissit-Bou Beker Dist., Jerada Province
Oriental Region, Morocco
3.2 x 2.5 1.7 CM (thumbnail)
price: $650
Late Summer 2021

A sharp and lustrous pair of "V" twins are conjoined along one edge. A super large thumbnail from the great mines at Touissit. The crystals are gemmy, transparent, and have the silky chatoyant "cat's-eye" inclusions that are so distinctive for these from Touissit. This is the quality needed to make the rare faceted or cabbed cats-eye gems, but the fine condition of the crystals would make that a real shame to cut. The color ranges from cognac to almost colorless depending on the light angle striking the crystals. Overall in fine condition from most every angle, this is incredible for such a delicate and fragile mineral. Close inspection shows ultra tiny edge roughness and small contacts but as seen the the condition is very clean. This specimen dates to the "golden age" of Touissit mining in the late 1970's era. This incredible locality is closed forever and no more of these will be found.

Copper - spinel twin crystals
stock #21.1-318
Dzhezkazgan Mining District
Karaganda Region, Kazakhstan
7.5 x 1 x .6 CM (cabinet)
price: $390
Late Summer 2021

Elongated spinel twin crystals of copper in a chain form are topped with a tiny "tree" of copper wire crystals. Super esthetic and in perfect condition from the amazing find about 12 years ago in Kazakhstan, this is a textbook perfect example. The Copper has a dark red patina on one side and a more metallic on the other. The red color may be the result of Cuprite coatings and alterations on those faces. An elegant and delicate form, this is very impressive in person and the little tree really makes this remarkable.

Copper in Calcite with Epidote, Microcline and Pumpellyite
stock #21.1-322
Houghton County
Michigan, United States
4.8 x 4 x 4.1 CM (miniature)
price: $170
Late Summer 2021

Some masses of native copper mixed with gem clear Calcite crystals, most of which are richly included. A complex specimen on an amygdaloidal basalt matrix having many cavities filled with micro crystals. These vugs hold many Epidote crystal clusters most being on contrasting salmon colored crystals of Microcline. Good looking by naked eye but really amazing with magnification, this has a good mixture of species and is classic upper Michigan material. Unfortunately we have no mine attribution but this looks like a perfect match to the famed Quincy Mine.

Fluorite - USA classic, vintage 1950
stock #21.1-326
Cave-in-Rock, Hardin County
Illinois, United States
4.4 x 3.3 x 2.5 CM (miniature)
price: $280
Late Summer 2021

A nearly pure bright yellow color Fluorite with a tiny faint zone of light blue on some edges. This is an old piece with a tattered label dated 1950. The color and translucency is excellent, there are some edges that are slightly rough, the back and one side are the point of removal. The display side of the two main cubes is in nice condition. There is one round "Barite hole" on a face that adds a nice accent. Close exam of the wider faces shows many geometric growth structures and a little stepping, the luster is wet looking.

SOLD Calcite with Siderite
stock #SOLD AX-22-279
Mancos Shale, Montrose, Montrose County
Colorado, United States
6.2 x 4.8 x 4.2 CM (cabinet)
price: $0
Late Summer 2021

Well-defined Calcite rhomb crystals to 2.8CM across, on a contrasting Siderite matrix. The Siderite is botryoidal with a few isolated balls. In excellent condition as seen, the Calcite is fluorescent a good red color. Ex Frank Knaus and Dave Bunk, this is well above the usual quality for these Shale deposits, which we understand are either exhausted or off limits to collecting. A nice Colorado Calcite.

Okandawasi, Kaokoveld Plateau
Kunene Region, Namibia
4.2 x 3.8 x 2.3 CM (miniature)
price: $0
Late Summer 2021

A very fine and unusual miniature specimen that looks like blueberries on an evergreen bush. From a small recent find at Okandawasi (Namibia) in the Kaokoveld. This is composed of needle crystals of primary Malachite in a complex cluster. The Shattuckite is in powder blue balls with a matte luster and are perched on the branches. An unusual form and with very memorable esthetics for these Copper minerals.

SOLD Brookite on Quartz - classic USA
stock #SOLD 21.1-338
Magnet Cove, Hot Springs County
Arkansas, United States
3.4 x 1.5 x .8 CM (small miniature/ large thumbnail (toenail))
price: $0
Late Summer 2021

A sharp and quite lustrous Brookite crystal 1.1 CM across, with textbook perfect form, is perched on a milky Quartz crystal. The Brookite has an unusual blue iridescence on some faces, though it mostly looks black. A classic locality that is well-known for good Brookites that are very different from those well-known from Pakistan. An older specimen collected before 1969. This could be trimmed to be a thumbnail if desired but it is quite nice as is. The wider faces have complex geometric stepped structures well-presented. There is no damage at all.

Light pink to apricot color Calcites in delicate strays of radiating, acicular crystals in a three dimensional sculpture. In excellent condition, this looks fine from every angle. Typical of these Calcites, this piece is vividly florescent. The specimen hosts two generations of Calcite, the smaller more recent crystals are a brownish color and give a nice contrast.
