Fantastic contrast with bright red Spessartine Garnets on and inside a very clear Beryl (Aquamarine) crystal. In exceptional condition the Aquamarine has several faces showing negative imprints in the shape of Garnets that are no longer attached. The Spessartine is translucent to fully transparent and the Beryl is a fine blue gem grade with a few wispy inclusions and some complete small Garnets. This piece was found in one significant pocket in 2018. Far more striking in person, the Beryl is perfectly transparent and clear when viewed down the C axis.
Brazilianite with Cleavelandite
Telirio Claim, Linopolis, Divino das Laranjeiras, Doce Valley
5.7 x 5.4 x 3.7 CM (cabinet)
new year 2021
Large, textbook perfect and lustrous Brazilianite from the find in 2009 at Telirio. This is a cluster of fine, green to yellow colored Brazilianites with the largest crystal 4.5 CM tall and relatively thick. The condition is perfect and the specimen can display well from several angles. Most pieces of this find were the more common slender habit but there were a few that had this fatter form looking more like the very early finds decades ago. This piece has that form and the crystals are all fully transparent. In person the color is a bit more vivid and with super glassy luster. Sourced in Brazil at the time of the find from the late Dr. Luis Menezes. Luis was an amazing mineralogist and the man responsible for many of the greatest Brazilian specimens for decades.
