From the noted collection of Wallace Gould Levison, purchased by him in 1893 from an even older collection obtained by HG Diserow, seemingly pre 1870. Classic translucent Smithsonite from Laurium with fine blue green color, sawn and lightly polished. A photocopy of Levisons handwritten catalog entry page for this specimen is supplied with the piece. Levison was an important Victorian era US collector, inventor (first patent for a movie camera, UV mineral systems etc.) and prolific author.
Chalcedony- purple Stalactitic finger
Manakarra, Mumuju area, Sulawesi Barat Province
5.5 x 2 x 1.2 CM (small cabinet/ large miniature)
An impressive, perfect purple stalactitic Chalcedony finger with wet luster that is viewable on all sides, a 360 degree piece. The exciting new finds of Indonesian Chalcedony or grape agate has been big news in the mineral world. We looked through literally tons of material but found just a few perfect, complete, colorful and sculptural pieces. This one is from that top .001 percent, pristine and pretty.
A killer thumbnail of conjoined scepters with amazing form and perfection. The scepter heads have many tiny inclusions that look like rutile but could be lepidocrocite or similar material. The delicate purple color is softly zoned and all is fully transparent. No damage, from recent finds at Karur, we are very active seeking good materials from this locality, it has great potential but produces very few fine pieces like this. Exceptional for the locale or from anyplace. Choice, esthetic and really unusual.
A nice classic Franklin, New Jersey Willemite crystal well exposed on Calcite. Vivid fluorescence, sharp prism faces and not acid etched out of the matrix (which was usually done but looks melted and is less desirable). The crystal is typically crude and slightly rounded on some edges with natural cracks but no repairs.
An older, quite attractive Pakistani Beryl that is almost has a Heliodore hue but not quite. The two prisms are well terminated and have an unusual melted look . There is Rutile as well in several spots. Attractive arrangement, no breaks or repairs.
Barite - Included by Malachite
Likasi, Katanga Copper Crescent
Democratic Republic of Congo (Zaire)
5.1 X 5 X 4 CM (miniature)
Clear Barite crystals with some blebs and wisps of bright green Malachite inside and on the prisms. from the great Shaba Crescent area, this is a nice example. As is typical for this locale, magnification shows several bruises but most of the main crystals are in reasonable clean condition. Though not right for a perfectionist, this is still a good display specimen and these are no longer coming out from the Congo.
Very good form and color, a single terminated crystal of classic Pala area Elbaite. A single clean repair is noted, so much more affordable than usual. 12.4 grams, pretty much all gem grade with 3 separate color sections. Fully transparent, we did not backlight the photos, so it will be better in person. This had an older price of 775.00.
Dolomite on Quartz
Williamsville Quarry, Poplar Bluffs
6 x 4 x 3.2 CM (cabinet)
A very colorful Dolomite, bright yellow to Orange bladed crystals contrast well with a dark druzy quartz matrix. I have not seen another specimen like this piece from this locale, better known for Calcites. Super showy and in fine condition.
