HOLD Spinel (twinned) w. ruby color
stock #HOLD 8.DK-127
Luc Yen
Yen Bai Province, Vietnam
2.5 X 2 CM (thumbnail)
price: $175

Deep red Spinel (spinel twinned) with good sharrp form, A very eyecatching thumnail, that is not quite a true gemmy transparency but is translucent on the edges. The color of this one is far better than most and the form is distinctive. Attractively priced too.

HOLD Quartz, flattened, doubly terminated
stock #HOLD 8 DK-089
Linopolis, Divino das Laranjeiras, Doce Valley
Minas Gerais, Brazil
12.8 x 5 CM (cabinet)
price: $450

For even the most jaded quartz collector! This is a very different and attractive quartz that is mostly clear but with some internal milky clouds. Very flat and tabular, average is only 1.3 Cm thick, and resembling a fadden but without any "string" visible. To make it a little more exotic, there is a very slight twist to the crystal so it technically a gwendel but just barely! I have not seen any other quite like this and gwendels that are not from alpine clefts are very rare indeed! Ther are two very tiny hard to find chips on the backside of this otherwise it is absolutely pristine,

HOLD Tourmaline (Elbaite) bi-colored
stock #HOLD 8 RK-091
Cruzeiro Mine, Sao Jose de Safira
Minas Gerais, Brazil
3.5 x 2.1 CM (miniature)
price: $300

A translucent bi-color crystal with full undamaged termination and good color. A nice example of a Cruziero from sometime in the mid 80's. Attractive.

Native Silver (psudo after Dycrasite)
stock #8.1-008
Pribam-Haje
Central Bohemia Region, Czech Republic
7.5 x 4.4 CM (cabinet)
price: $475

A fine and sizable classic silver psudo in outstanding condition. Very esthetic, a dense cluster of wires and branches cover the top side of the matrix which has been artfully etched from the enclosing calcite. Presents perfectly, this is an older piece from one of the greatest silver localities in Europe.

Native Silver wires on Acanthite, Calcite etc.
stock #6.2-770
Huangtongxiang Mine, Luijiang
Anhui Province, China
8.2 x 7 CM (cabinet)
price: $425

Excellent complex array of wires stand up over 3 CM from the matrix in esthetic branches. The matrix is a very rich, heavy ore with many small vugs filled with micro calcites, silvers and what looks like Chlorargyrite. A very fine Silver from a less well known Chinese locale that has not produced much for the past few years. Quite different from the Shanxi Province Silvers that are better known.

HOLD Quartz (Herkimer diamond) with prismatic voids
stock #HOLD 7 NY-042
Ace of Diamonds mine, Herkimer
New York, United States
8.5X5.2 CM (cabinet)
price: $250

A sizable, sharp and glassy pair of intergrown Herks that have far better than average clarity. These have some fine bubbles. anthraxolite flakes and tubes included within, but the best is the rare "crystal voids" that are cavities shaped exactly like a small doubly terminated quartz. Contacted on the rear and with a few chips but still displays well and the inclusions are easy to view.

HOLD Quartz (green-blue artichoke type)
stock #HOLD 8.1-111
Shangbao Pyrite Mine, Leiyang
Hunan Province, China
10.5x8.4 CM (cabinet)
price: $250

A bright and esthetic cluster of quartz showing several forms and reaching over 6 CM. There are also fluorites (white to 1 CM size), pyrite, dolomite and small bismuthinites as well but the main attraction is the greenish "artichokes" that are famous from Shangbao. Most of the main crystals are in excellent condition but some minor damage is visible on smaller side crystals with magnifcation. This can be displayed without any damage visible at all. Some terminations at first glace seem damaged but with magnification it becomes clear that they are fully terminated with either an unusual cupped and cavernous structure or many tiny fibrous parallel growths which are in turn terminated. Some small scepters are here too. The color for these is usually referred to as Green, but depending on the light and the viewer, the color can be more blueish. Either way this is very attractive and lustrous piece.

Fluorite with Acanthite, native Silver, Sphalerite etc.
stock #8.1-311
Wutong Mine, Liubao, Cangwu Co. Wuzoh Pref.
Guangxi Province, China
3.9 x 2.4 CM (small miniature)
price: $200

Clear Fluorites (very light green) are the matrix for Native Silver, Acanthite and other silver minerals. Some of the Fluorite is included by these minerals - it is best appreciated with magnification. A single sharp Sphalerite crystal is partially coated with Acanthite and a film of Silver. Micro-crystals that appear to be Polybasite are also noted. A very different sort of Silver specimen!
