Harmotone - antique, classic 1875 specimen
St. Andreasburg, Harz Mountains, Braunlage, Goslar District
Lower Saxony, Germany
6.5 x 5.5 x 2.9 CM (cabinet)
price: $700
Superb quality St Andreasberg Harmotone with great historic provenance. This is from the type locality and in fantastic condition with unusually large crystals, fine definition, contrast and form. This was sold at the auction of the Col. Yorke collection in 1875 and purchased by Sir Warington W. Smyth (an important English collector and geologist 1817-1890) ) as his specimen #442. Much later sold by the famed US dealer Lazard Cahn (Cahnite). His label is with the piece. Several fine crystals are doubly terminated and reach to 1.2 CM. This is certainly a top Harz Mountains specimen of the specie and is a great piece from any locality but especially so from the type locality with a fine pedigree to boot.
