Fluorite - New find with minor Quartz
Longyan
Fujian Province, China
7.3 x 6.1 x 3.7 CM (cabinet)
price: $800
Modified blue cubes with beveled edges perched on contrasting matrix from a new find at Longyan (late 2024 to early 2025). The exact mine name has not yet been revealed, there are 2 possible sites but for now this is all the detail we have for certain, The cubo-octahedral form is textbook perfect, the condition is excellent and the blue color crystals are well isolated with some zoning when backlit. The luster is slightly matte especially on the bevel faces. On close exam we see several much smaller very light blue crystals that are almost colorless while the larger crystals are a more intense blue with the deepest color concentrated on the inside center of the main crystals. As happens in many new finds from China some rumors arose claiming that all blue Chinese Fluorites are irradiated. We can find no evidence of this in this material and every indication is these are fully natural. In irradiated Fluorites the color is strongest in the smaller crystals and is not darker in the centers as is the case here. It is not yet clear how large this find was but we have not seen a flood of these. No matter the quantity these are impressive and have fine display qualities.
