Calcite - intense red
stock #19.1-281-(6035)
Santa Eulalia, Aquiles Serdan
Chihuahua,
Mexico
9.7 x 5.7 x 3.1 (cabinet)
price: $800
A stunning piece from the collection of Rock Currier, his label number 6035 is included. The fingers of Calcite reach up to 5 CM and host many hundred of transparent crystals that are included with intense red Hematite. The glittering effect is really impressive in person and this is a superb Santa Eulalia specimen with great visual impact. In fine condition as seen, the red fingers contrast with the colorless Calcite of the matrix. With magnification the Calcite are seen to be in several habits and many have red phantoms inside. A few later generation colorless Calcite twins are perched on the red crystals adding a nice accent.
An excellent addition to any good Mexican suite or Calcite collection. A well chosen pieces, these do not get any more colorful than this.
A Mimetite from older (1962-64) finds at Mina Ojuela that looks very different from most later materials. The Mimetites are unusually sharp and lustrous, many prisms with hoppered terminations. The crystals are brilliant yellow on one side of the specimen and a dull brown on the other side. Mixed in are several small Calcite rhombs which are transparent too. Most of the crystals are perfect and undamaged but there also spots with damage that keeps this far less pricey. Although not very easily seen without magnification they are there. These older Mexican Mimetites are unlike the later and larger finds that are very well known (San Pedro Coralitos etc), these are not the usual rounded form but are more glassy and quite prismatic.

San Antonio Mine, Santa Eulalia, Aquiles Serdan
Chihuahua,
Mexico
10.8 x 7.9 x 3.7 CM (cabinet)
price: $360
A striking color zoned Calcite from the San Antonia Mine, Santa Eulalia. This was mined about 20 years ago, and shows two generations of Calcite with different habits. Brilliant red color and with bright luster, the red is most likely from Hematite. The display face is in excellent undamaged condition, the only damage is along the outer edges where it was removed but even that is minimal. A distinctive, colorful Mexican piece that is much more impressive in person.

Distinctly different from more recent finds and brightly fluorescent.
Sinaloa,
Mexico
8.3 x 5.3 x 2.6 CM (cabinet)
price: $250
From our series of unusual, strange, cool or odd locales for Pyromorphite. A mystery piece since it is unlike any other Mexican Pyromorphite, and with a puzzling (perhaps wrong) locality. Ex John Marshall collection, John obtained this from the Lesnicks mineral dealership in 1992, labeled Sinaloa State, an area not known for Pyro at all. Either this was mislabeled or came from a new find that is since lost. We normally do not handle specimens with uncertain locality details but this is a a quite unusual specimen and very well crystalized so it may be right for someone who wants to do the research The matrix does not match any of the Mexican localities I am familiar with. For the collector of Pyromorphites or Mexican minerals who has everything, or who likes to do the research and get the correct details of this place.

Selenite (very clear gypsum crystal)
stock #19.1-238
Naica Mine. Naica, Municipio de Saucillo
Chihuahua,
Mexico
5.7 x 3.1 x 1.1 CM (cabinet)
price: $240
Spring 2019
Textbook perfect, sharp and transparent, a single doubly terminated Selenite from the famed Naica Mine. This is a 1970s vintage specimen in fine condition as seen. There are a few wispy inclusions that are not visible on some display angles, the exterior luster is very glassy with a few areas with very minor frosting. Overall this is a choice example. The Naica mine produced a lot of Selenite in its day. Not much that came out was this fine, most had some damage or edge issues. Now that the mine is closed these better specimens are becoming treasures.
Cerussite - blue-green inclusions
stock #AX-29-114
Mina Ojuela, Mapimi
Durango,
Mexico
6.8 x 4.4 x 4.2 CM (cabinet)
price: $490
Spring 2019
An incredible Ojuela Cerussite that is a mix of colorless, green and nearly black Cerussite crystals with minimal matrix of Sulfides, mostly Pyrite. From a find about 5 years ago there were not many as fine as this. Slender, flattened and blocky prismatic habits with and without twinning in exceptional condition. The quality is amazing for this delicate mineral. The darkest Cerussites are included by a dark Sulfide, probably Galena. The green-blue color is an especially nice touch when seen on the clearest crystals. This could be trimmed to a killer miniature but the overall specimen seems to have greater mineralogical interest if kept intact.
