Berthierite w. Stibnite
stock #AX-12-320
Herja Mine, Chiuzbala , Baia Mare
Maramures, Romania
15.7 x 6.2 x 5.4 CM (cabinet)
price: $1700
Spring 2019

A super, large display specimen of a specie that is not often considered as a display-worthy mineral! A brushy tree like spray of well defined Berthierite with fine steel- grey color and very bright luster. In perfect condition and good looking on all sides, this is an older piece from the Herja Mine, ex Carter Rich and William Hladysz. This area of Romania produced what are by far the worlds best of the specie and this is a top percentile specimen that is certainly among the very best pieces. Now that the mines are closed this is certainly to be considered a classic. Much better in person.

Barite included by Realgar (classic)
stock #14.1-107
Baia Sprie
Maramures, Romania
7.2 x 6 x 2.9 CM (cabinet)
price: $1850
Late Summer 2018

For many collectors, the most desirable Barites (Baryte) are the rare, classic Romanian specimens colored bright red by Included Realgar. This is a choice old specimen in excellent condition with delicate orange-red Barites on contrasting matrix. The crystals show sheaf-like bundles and rosettes well separated from the matrix and free standing. Crystallized on both sides this has very strong display impact. Almost impossible to find today even average specimens have become very expensive.

Cerussite with Malachite, Deviline etc. Vintage
stock #18.1-156
Rezbanya, Baita Mining District, Nucet
Bihor, Romania
7 x 4.4 x 3.2 CM (cabinet)
price: $800
Worldwide mix summer

Glassy, clear and sharp prismatic crystals of Cerussite in a protected vug. This was collected back when Rezbanya was in Hungary, now called Baita, which is in Bihor, Romania. There are references to good Cerussite specimens in 19th century mineral texts but these are almost never seen even in old collections. Attractive and in fine condition, the Cerussites have a light cognac color and are transparent. From an old collection in the Czech Republic, this is a significant, vintage Roumanian specimen

Chalcopyrite with Galena, Pyrite and Calcite
stock #16.1-684
Rodna, Rodna Mountains
Bistrita-Nasaud County, Romania
8.9 x 6.4 x 4 CM (cabinet)
price: $225
Worldwide mix summer

From an older European collection, these are well formed, fine Chalcopyrites with some complex Galena all dusted with Calcites. The original label lists this as from Rodna, but it is unlike any other example we have seen from the locale, and unlike any of the better known Romanian localities (Cavnic, Turt etc). As often happens with old collections we can not always fully trust the locality information, but if correct this is especially fine for the locality and a significant older Roumanian piece with character. Undamaged. The Chalcopyrites reach 2.6 CM and are textbook sharp.

Semseyite- large crystals with Sphalerite, Sphaerosiderite etc
stock #AX-18-197
Herja Mine, Chiuzbala , Baia Mare
Maramures, Romania
9.1 x 7.8 x 4.5 CM (cabinet)
price: $500
Spring update

Very well formed, large (to 4 CM across) rosettes of sharp and lustrous Semseyite in undamaged condition. The matrix is a mix of lustrous black Sphalerites and Sphaerosiderite balls colored by Boulangerite. A few Chalcopyrites sprinkled in add a little extra color. These are the biggest undamaged osettes we have handled, the overall esthetics is very strong and fine for the specie.

Fizelyite w. Semseyite etc Type Locality
stock #16.1-668
Herja Mine, Chiuzbala , Baia Mare
Maramures, Romania
5.8 x 3.2 x 2.7 CM (cabinet)
price: $440
Pre Holiday 2017

An unusually fine, rich and even attractive specimen of well crystallized Fizelyite. A rare Silver and Lead sulfosalt that is most often a "black ugly", this specimen is quite appealing. This has very bright luster and sharp form, dense crystal coverage and is associated with some fans of Semsyite on a Sulphide matrix. From the old Finds at Herja / Baia Mare, Romania which is they type locality for the specie. Hard to fine in good specimens this is far above average for quality and condition.

Galena ps after Pyrrhotite - ex Minette collection
stock #AX-12-249
Herja Mine, Chiuzbala , Baia Mare
Maramures, Romania
9.3 x 6.3 x 5.1 CM (cabinet)
price: $875
Spring 2017

A killer esthetic pseudomorph that has bright flattened Galenas arranged epitaxially and completely replacing large Pyrrhotite crystals. This was previously in the Minette, Loud and Hladyz collections. This is also the very best example of this unusual replacement I have seen, in excellent undamaged condition and impressive from all sides. The original Pyrrhotite crystals shapes are perfectly preserved and reach to 7.5 CM across.

Hemimorphite with Malachite (classic old locale)
stock #0044-JM-2296
Rezbanya, Baita Mining District, Nucet
Bihor, Romania
7.4 x 6.1 x 3.5 CM (cabinet)
price: $675
Post Tucson 2015

Brilliant lustrous blue color crystals on this very old, fine classic piece. Ex Lechner, (Austria), Schortmann, and John Marshall collection, the old labels have this in Hungary (now Romania) and was in the Lechner collection prior to 1903, but likely from much earlier in the 19th century. In fine condition with an electric color, there seems to be some Chrysocolla as well as Malachite under the Hemimorphite which helps the rich color. Excellent quality, fine provenance and eye-catching sparkling esthetics that is simply impossible to find today.
