One of the most exciting and attractive finds of the past few years were these "Grape Agates" or Chalcedony spheres from Sulawesi. Now more correctly called botryoidal Amethyst, this material is unique in the mineral world and can be incredibly attractive. This is a select piece, well-formed on all sides with the desirable bicolor (green and purple) areas. The color on this piece is a good deep grape purple and the "front" is also covered with drusy Quartz that adds the most desired sparkling luster. In fine condition as seen, better specimens from this find are among the best values on the mineral market today, however recent mining has not been producing much of the higher quality.

It is hard not to like the "grape agates" from the finds in and near Mamuju. The best of these are a wet looking cluster of balls with vivid purple color and sometimes with some green balls for contrast. Most have at least some damage or contacts, but this piece seems to be fully perfect. This has fine luster and color from all angles, a floater. One of our favorite finds of the past few years, the location where the best color was found is said to be finished, we hope that is not so.

Highly esthetic and in fine condition from the incredible find at Mamuju, Sulawesi (Indonesia). This important discovery yielded some large and impressive pieces, but very fine thumbnails like this were much less common. This is a colorful and high impact small piece that is an elegant sculpture. From one of the best modern mineral discoveries.

Esthetic and withy nice form from the incredible find at Mamuju, Sulawesi (Indonesia). The less common green balls mixed with purples makes a nice contrast. This important discovery yielded some large and impressive pieces, but good thumbnails like this were much less common. This is a colorful and high impact small piece that is an elegant sculpture. From one of the best modern mineral discoveries.

There is a lot of Manakarra "grape" Chalcedony in the market, but some specimens do stand out. This is complete piece, a floater, undamaged and with fine form. The color ranges from a brilliant wet look purple to a more subdued lilac hue. A dusting of tiny green Quartz adds extra sparkle. Very affordable for this quality, displays well on all sides
