Early summer 2021
Gem clear "windowpane" type crystals perched on matrix that is sprinkled with tiny Mimetite balls. Excellent dark orange-red color and very sharp edges on the Wulfenites which are in excellent condition with no visible damage. From the 2018 find that made big news at this locale, unfortunately the zone was very small and soon exhausted, there have not been more found since. This looks much more like a Red Cloud (Arizona USA) specimen than anything from Mexico. On close exam it is seen than this habit and find are distinctly unique and not exactly like any other Wulfenites.
Hedyphane on Calcite
stock #20.1 -885
San Carlos Mine, Municipio de Maunuel Benavidas
Chihuahua,
Mexico
7.8 x 4.7 x 2.5 CM (cabinet)
price: $550
new year 2021
A rich and fine specimen of rarely seen specie from a find in the late 1960 era. Lustrous, bright yellow Hedyphane crystals are clustered in radiating groups and tufts on Calcite. The San Carlos Mine has had some sporadic and typically small discoveries of fine minerals over the last 70 years. Most recently were the world class Vanadinites found in 2018. Hedyphane is quite rare here, it is known mostly in nice micro crystals but almost no "naked eye" specimens exist. This piece is an exception with clearly visible sparkling crystals on a large area. For any suite of Mexican, Lead, or San Carlos minerals this is a very nice addition. From the Ruth and Andy Palmer species collection that was gathered in collaboration with Dr. Joe Manderino.
Galena - skeletal, hoppered crystals
stock #20.1-288
San Carlos Mine, Municipio de Maunuel Benavidas
Chihuahua,
Mexico
10 x 7.1 x 4.7 CM (cabinet)
price: $950
Incredible,an older (1952) Mexican Galena with textbook perfect hoppered, skeletal form crystals. This specimen is from the San Carlos Mine, which in the late 1950 era produced some world class Vanadinite. After many years with no specimens, the mine again produced fine Vanadinites and Wulfenites in 1980 and 2018. We have never seen any other good specimens of Galena from this locale, and this is a choice piece from anyplace. The Galena has a dull luster from micro a micro druze of Anglesite and some Calcite. The forms range from deep hoppers with geometric ridges to intersecting boxes and even spirals. From the collection of Skylar Alverson obtained from G. Hixon in 1952. Outstanding condition and form, just a super Galena and a choice Mexican specimen.

The area where these were found was quickly mined out and there will be no more. Choice and very attractive, destined to be a highly desirable Mexican classic.

This year there was a major find of exceptional Vanadinites at the San Carlos Mine (Chihuahua, Mexico). A small number of superb pieces with great form, color and luster are now considered to be the best Vanadinites ever found in Mexico and for that matter in North America. This is one of those fine pieces with perfect, sharp free standing hexagons and some color zoning. Most of the terminations are flat but a few show minor hoppering. In fine condition overall, the major crystals are all pristine. The area where these were found was quickly mined out and there will be no more. Choice and very attractive, destined to be a highly desirable Mexican classic.
Wulfenite on Mimetite -New find
stock #18.1-546
San Carlos Mine, Municipio de Maunuel Benavidas
Chihuahua,
Mexico
3.2 x 2.6 x 1 CM (small miniature/ large thumbnail (toenail))
price: $1250
A killer toenail of fine orange-red Wulfenite with perfect, textbook form. The contrasting matrix of Mimetite adds a great contrast. From the new find at San Carlos Mine, this is unusual as it is perfect, undamaged and well trimmed. This was a small but important find, the mine previously was known only for some fine Vanadinites decades ago, these new Wulfenites were a big surprise. This was the best in this size that we saw and it is much more impressive in person. Can be trimmed to a fine competition grade thumbnail, but certainly looks fine as is.
