Fluorite on Sphalerite
stock #15.1-515
Elmwood Mine, Carthage
Tennessee, United States
5.3 x 4.3 x 3 CM (cabinet)
price: $175

A sharp single Fluorite perched on a complexly crystallized Sphalerite matrix. The Fluorite is transparent, and has geometrically etched, stepped structures on its faces. The front or display side is in perfect condition, a tiny cleave is noted on the back side that is almost invisible by naked eye. The Fluorite is like a small jewel, the color is purple blue. There are still some good values to be found in Elmwood Fluorites.
Fluorite
stock #18-A7-046-(620)
Elmwood Mine, Carthage
Tennessee, United States
4.4 x 2.7 x 2.3 CM (miniature)
price: $300

An esthetic miniature specimen ex Larry White collection. The purple phantom cubes contrast well with the light colored matrix. The Fluorites also have a sharp exterior ridge-line frame on the outside of the cubes that adds some extra interesting geometry. Nice miniature from the great Elmwood Mine that is quite different from the usual mine run. All of the Fluorites are transparent, the matrix also has a druse of tiny colorless cubes as well. Elmwood was one of the last world class specimen mines in the USA and is certainly a modern classic locale.
Fluorite
stock #19.1-502
Elmwood Mine, Carthage
Tennessee, United States
5.2 x 2.2 x 1.7 CM (small cabinet/ large miniature)
price: $420
Spring 2020

A complete 360 degree "Carthage corner" Fluorite with deep purple color that is fully translucent to transparent. Every face of this piece is perfectly etched with tiny stairstep structures from the complex re-crystallization that forms these unique shapes. It is not completely understood why this form of Fluorite that is very rare worldwide has been found so often at the Elmwood mine. Even at this prolific site good, clean undamaged examples are still uncommon. A choice piece with well saturated color.
Fluorite
stock #19.1-501
Elmwood Mine, Carthage
Tennessee, United States
5.3 x 3 x 2.8 CM (small cabinet/ large miniature)
price: $520

An especially fine, perfect and odd "Carthage Corner" Fluorite that is almost colorless but with a hint of purple in person. These strange etched crystal corners are quite incredible and distinctive for the Elmwood mines. This one is especially exotic with extra finger-like growths one edge which also look like tiny "corners". The specimen is displayable from all sides and the geometric etchings are as sharp as any I have seen. An American classic and a choice Fluorite for any suite. Even better in person.
Calcite- gemmy, twinned
stock #15.1-513
Elmwood Mine, Carthage
Tennessee, United States
5.4 x 5 x 2.3 CM (cabinet)
price: $360
Dec 2018

Ultra clear, a pair of transparent crystals of twinned Scalenohedral Calcite from the great Elmwood mine. The faces are glassy and the termination tips show a slight hint of a cognac color otherwise these are perfectly colorless. The twinning is both a rotational and interpenetrated type, which is very easy to see in person. Just a hint of matrix is present, mostly on the backside of one crystal. The condition is fine and the terminations are uncleaved, A contact on the back, lower edge is noted but no damage. Now that the Elmwood is closed probably forever, good, clean Calcites of the quality are becoming quite uncommon and prized.
Fluorite -etched edges and faces
stock #18.1-249A
Elmwood Mine, Carthage
Tennessee, United States
2.4 x 1.8 x 1.4 (thumbnail)
price: $220
Worldwide mix summer

A tasteful thumbnail of zoned Fluorite showing very fine stepped and etched faces. From the Elmwood mine ex Larry White collection, this is a strong display piece with minimal matrix. In fine condition, there is a cleave on the backside (not seen) and a micro chip seen with magnification, otherwise pristine and now that the mine is closed there will be no more. It has been remarkable to many that this incredibly productive locale had so few good thumbnail sized specimens, everything was usually far larger and in most pockets nothing small was collected.
Fluorite on Sphalerite
stock #8.1-273
Elmwood Mine, Carthage
Tennessee, United States
14.9 x 9.8 x 5.3 CM (cabinet)
price: $750
Worldwide mix summer

A larger cabinet specimen of a modern American classic. Two zoned purple to white cubes sit on opposite sides of a lustrous Sphalerite matrix. A few small Dolomite crystals add a nice accent as well. In very good condition and quite esthetic, the backside is contacted but not seen from display side. The cubes are 5.7 CM across diagonally.
Fluorite with Carthage Corner habit
stock #16.1-574
Elmwood Mine, Carthage
Tennessee, United States
10.3 x 6.2 x 5.6 CM (cabinet)
price: $425
Spring update

A clean textbook quality example of a gemmy Carthage corner Fluorite. The larger cube has typical frosted, stepped faces and translucent purple surfaces but the corner is glass smooth, perfectly colorless and gem clear, a window into the interior of the crystal. A modern classic habit from the Elmwood mine, this is much more impressive in person and an esthetic mineralogical curiosity.
