Mogok, Pyin-oo-Lwin District
Mandalay Division, Burma (Myanmar)
5.7 x 4.2 x 2.9 CM (small cabinet/ large miniature)
price: $150

A sharp, doubly terminated pink to red Ruby sits well exposed on contrasting Calcite/ Marble. The Crystal is 2.3 CM long, and shows bright luster and sharp striations. Vividly fluorescent as well, the crystal is complete despite a few cracks, and has a good translucence.

Corundum var. Ruby on Calcite with Phlogopite
stock #16.1-660
Mogok, Pyin-oo-Lwin District
Mandalay Division, Myanmar (Burma)
6.3 x 4.4 x 2.6 CM (cabinet)
price: $750
Winter 2016-17

A rich red Ruby crystal that is transparent, has a slight color zoning and more purple core. This stands nicely from the encasing Calcite matrix. A second corundum crystal on the backside is broken and more blue, it is not seen from the display side. There is one clean repair that is not seen without help of 20X magnification, otherwise the Ruby is perfect and complete. The crystal is partially enclosed on the Calcite with 1.9 CM exposed and seems to be about 2.8 CM overall. Very fine form and color, Mogok Ruby has been regarded as the best in the world for centuries, yet few good specimens are seen. Mined in 2016, it is now illegal to export uncut gems from Mynamar.

Chrome Tremolite
stock #8.AE-881
Mogok, Pyin-oo-Lwin District
Mandalay Division, Burma (Myanmar)
5.9 x 3.6 CM (small cabinet/ large miniature)
price: $200

A single sizable (3 CM) crystal of rich green Chrome Tremolite sits on a Calcite matrix. The crystal form is impressively sharp for one of such size, this is not the typical "blob" of Tremolite! Great color and gemmy on thin edges, these are not common in general and rare in such aesthetic specimen.
