Chalcocite
stock #AX-4-066
Flambeau Mine, Ladysmith, Rusk County
Wisconsin, United States
5.8 x 5.2 x 3.5 CM (cabinet)
price: $450
Spring 23

A pure mass of intergrown Chalcocite crystals most of which have very good iridescence. A modern day classic, this mine produced some very fine Chalcocites over a brief period more than 20 years ago. These will never be found again at this locale. Good Chalcocite crystals are surprisingly rare, most of the best came from very old localities and no place ever produced many or for a long period. This piece looks good on all sides, is solid (no sulfide degeneration) and a very good value for a nice Flambeau.

Chalcocite - iridescent crystals
stock #AX-4-059
Flambeau Mine, Ladysmith, Rusk County
Wisconsin, United States
5.3 x 3.8 x 2.8 CM (small cabinet/ large miniature)
price: $750
New Year 22

A cluster of bright and well-defined crystals with rich patina. Choice modern classic from the Flambeau Mine, these crystals reach to over 3 CM and are complexly intergrown. There have only been two great finds of Chalcocite crystals in the USA, the old Bristol Copper mine in the 1840-50 era and the Flambeau in the mid 1990's. Both locations are finished and will never produce again. The hexagonal disk-like habits on this are twinned crystals which are in excellent condition. Close exam finds only a very small bruise (3mm) and a contact neither of which is easy to spot or distracting. Several smaller crystals seem to be untwinned, there is no matrix. Pure Chalcocite with red, blue and purple hues showing well. This does not have any of the unstable pyrite that sometimes causes decomposition, this is far better than 99.9% of this famed find. Displays well from most any angle.

Post Tucson 2015

A stacked cluster of sharp, well-formed, slightly iridescent crystals from the famed Flambeau mine. In fine condition, the largest crystals are about 1.5 cm across and show the twinned pseudo hexagonal habit with pyramid terminations. Classic "soot" black with metallic edges in a very distinctive form.

Spring 2013

Large bright iridescent crystal aggregate, undamaged from finds in the 1990's. Individual complex crystals up to 3.3 CM showing purple, blue and yellow iridescence primarily. Looks better in person, holds well among Chalcocites from any location. Not just black and ugly!
