Very cute, affordable and in good condition from the Benchmark quarry collected by Bill Hladysz many years ago. A single Calcite prism is perched on a Dolomite and Marcasite matrix with a few micro Pyrites as well. These are modern NY classic specimens.

Fall 2015

Amber colored Calcite crystals are prominently perched on a crystallized Dolomite matrix. In fine condition with rich color and above average clarity, this was collected by Bill Hladysz many years ago. The Benchmark Quarry is now something of a modern NY state classic locality. Affordable and pretty.

Benchmark Quarry, St. Johnsville, Montgomery County
New York, United States
5.7 x 2 x 2.1 CM (cabinet)
price: $385
pre Tucson 2015 update

A exceptional and odd form with an elegant look. Sharp Dolomite crystals are sprinkled on a stalk of matrix decorated with golden Marcasites and tiny Calcites. The top of the curving finger of matrix has a light amber colored Calcite that is sharp, complete and transparent to translucent. All in all some great esthetics from the Benchmark quarry, more famed for its Herkimer style Quartz. A very fine NY Calcite!

Calcite w. Dolomite & Marcasite
stock #AX-17-881
Benchmark Quarry, St. Johnsville, Montgomery County
New York, United States
6.5 x 3.3 x 3.4 CM (cabinet)
price: $900
pre Tucson 2015 update

A very odd and esthetic twinned Calcite sits on a thin shaft of matrix that has some Marcasite and Dolomite adding nice accents. The yellow Calcite has a great contrast to the matrix, and is quite translucent. This is the best form of this type Calcite I have seen, it comes from from the amazing NY collection of William Hladysz. Certainly one of a kind.

Calcite, Quartz (Herkimer style), Dolomite, Marcasite
stock #AX-17-836
Benchmark Quarry, St. Johnsville, Montgomery County
New York, United States
7 x 6.6 x 3.8CM (cabinet)
price: $440
Spring 2014

A wonderful combination specimen with impressive esthetics. From the Hladysz collection, this is an outstanding example of what could sometimes be found at the Benchmark Quarry 25 years ago. Bill Hladysz had exclusive permission to extract specimens there for decades, this is a gem from his personal collection now being dispersed. No eye visible damage, what may look like a chip on the calcite is not, it is a stepped edge growth.
