A very fine, super colorful and very unusual Apatite from the famed Pederneira Mine. The Apatite crystals show several generations of growth and color zoning quite different from the tourmaline the mine is famed for. This specimen also has a bi-colored, doubly terminated Elbaite crystal on the backside that is 4.7 CM long, a nice addition. The Apatites have sharp flat terminations and colors zones in purple, blue, orange-red and some dark green. These also show well some selective growth and etching with areas of re-crystallization. This makes for a complex and especially interesting presentation that looks fine from several angles. Excellent condition with no damage, this is the best Apatite I have seen from Pederneira, and would be a fine piece from anyplace. Vividly fluorescent with a zoned responses corresponding with the daylight color areas.

Minas Gerais,
Brazil
4.2 x .8 x .5 CM (miniature)
price: $220
A clear sharp pair of parallel crystals with slight hint of zoning. Pretty much all gem grade, undamaged and cleanly terminated, this is an affordable and attractive Tourmaline. Since the crystals are rather flat they also transmit light well and are brilliant with any backlight. From finds at the famed Pederneira in 2009.
Spessartine - etched gem crystal

Pederneira Mine, Sao Jose da Safira, Doce Valley
Minas Gerais,
Brazil
3.5 x 1.6 x 1.1 CM (small miniature/ large thumbnail (toenail))
price: $240
A fine, complete floater of naturally etched gem quality Spessartine from an unusual locale. This is an older piece from the famed Pederneira Mine ex. Larry White collection. Similar to the better known Navegadora Spessartine, we have only seen one other example from this locality. Like a modern cityscape or sculpture, this is a fine example of this Garnet habit. Completely translucent to transparent, this is all gem grade, with backlighting (the photos are not backlit) it glows a bright red. In undamaged condition, the geometric etchings and crystal forms are especially sharp on this toenail sized piece.

Bright green to blueish glassy luster tourmaline crystal in excellent condition. Nearly all gem grade, this weighs 6.5 Grams, and has only a few minor internal veils. Excellent example of this style from the great Pederneira Mine, there are no chips or flaws on the entire prism or termination, althouh this is inclomplete on the bottom end where it came from the matrix. That is not visible when displayed.

Late Summer 2018
Glass-clear gem crystal with perfect form and fine color. From older finds at the great Pederneira mine, this shows a slight color zoning and a bit deeper color near the termination. No damage. This is 100 percent facet grade gem and a choice crystal specimen.
Gem blue-green crystals of Indicolite (Elbaite) standing free from contrasting matrix from early finds at Pederneira. Esthetic arrangement, the Tourmalines have complex multi-pointed terminations that may be recrystallized. One smaller crystal is broken and there is what looks like one small repair, but the larger prisms are fine and undamaged. Nearly all of these have many repairs but this smaller one seems a lot more intact than most. The longest crystal is 3.7 CM. Larger specimens of this color and habit are seen in top collections and sell at the very top of the spectrum. This more modest piece has a strong display character and is an excellent value.

A profusion of Tourmalines with minimal matrix making a complex but esthetic array. The Elbaite crystals are a clear light blue grading to pink and red colors. The main crystals are all perfectly terminated but some of the smaller ones have damaged parts that are not easily noticed. The crystals reach 3.7 CM and are quite three dimensional. An older Pederneira specimen with a form and color palate that is not like more recent material. Choice.

Blue color zoned gem Tourmaline in perfect condition and with fine luster. The body of this is a darker blue that needs backlighting to show up well, the tip is a very transparent light blue that grades darker along the crystal. A very nice "steel blue" crystal from the famed Pederneira claim, these are modern classics and not very common at not stratospheric prices.
