Pyromorphite - USA classic

Little Giant Mine, Mullan, Coeur d' Arlene District, Shoshone County
Idaho, United States
7.6 x 5.6 x 3.1 CM (cabinet)

Late Summer 2021

Well-crystallized Pyromorphite crystals cover a matrix plate from the Little Giant Mine (Idaho, USA). This region has a long mining history and is well-known as the home of the Bunker Hill Mine, one of the world's great Pyro locales. Less famed but still quite important is the Little Giant, and this is an excellent example for this locality. A choice addition to a serious suite of Pyromorphite the quality is much better than just a locality specimen. Ex John Marshall Collection; John was a passionate collector of Pyros and his taste was excellent. John purchased this specimen in 1974 from the Paul Zimmerman collection. His collection card states "One of the best pieces I have ever seen from the locality". It is outstanding for this mine.

Little Giant Mine, Mullan, Coeur d' Arlene District, Shoshone County
Idaho, United States
9 x 7.1 x 4.2 CM (cabinet)
price: $770

A very fine specimen from another uncommon but significant US locality. From the Little Giant mine, at Mullen, Idaho a sizable and rich specimen densely covered on the front surface with pale green crystals. From John Marshals superb collection of world wide Pyromorphite his collection card reads "typical habit on Little Giant piece, about the best I have ever seen." The little Giant mine was an important locale for Pyro long before the Kellogg/ Bunker Hill Mine find put Idaho in the spotlight. The mine closed over 100 years ago and fine specimens are quite scarce. This one is just exceptional, in remarkable condition the crystals are the delicate "porcelain" luster and up to 7mm long. Very different look from the more available Bunker Hill material. Great addition for any serious Pyromorphite suite.

pre Tucson 2015 update

A big and well-crystallized Pyromorphite from a little known location, the Little Giant Mine. This specimen was in the famed Pyro suite of John Marshall, the best example from Little Giant he had been seen in his 60 years of Pyromorphite collecting. Later discoveries nearby at Bunker Hill mine are much more well known, but this locality had a few fine specimens before then. This is one of them and is if very good condition, has 2 generations of growth with crystals reaching 7mm densely covering the matrix.
