Light purple Fluorites with penetration twinning on miniature matrix. Vivid fluorescence which is typical for Fluorite from this region, and some fluorescence in daylight as well. The Fluorites are transparent and have a deeper purple core. Classic habit and in very good condition, these were found for many decades, and are unlike Fluorite from any place else.

SOLD Fluorite w. Galena ex. Johansson coll
stock #SOLD 15.1-648
Blackdene Mine, Weardale
Durham, England
9.5 x 8.6 x 4.1 CM (cabinet)
price: $0
Fall 2015

An old well formed and classic Blackdene Fluorite from the collection of Warren Johansson. Warren obtained this piece in an exchange with Harvard in 1938, so it is clearly a vintage specimen. The cubes reach 4.2 CM in diameter and have good sharp edges. Several crystals display internal cleavage planes but the exterior shapes are intact and in quite good condition. Minor edge wear is noted on the outside edges but the main crystals in the center are undamaged. The Galena is on the reverse side so will not be in any logical dispaly orientation.
