Vanadinite
stock #21.1-208
Western Union Mine, Stockton Hill, Mohave County
Arizona, United States
1.5 x 1.3 x .5 CM (thumbnail)
price: $750
Early summer 2021

Small but with incredible form, a Vanadinite tree with no matrix from recent collecting at the Western Union Mine (aka Western or Black and Tan Mine). These stepped crystals show a form much like a reversed scepter. Super esthetic from any side, and in fine condition. The long closed mine yielded some very nice small Vanadinites in several different habits in the 1980's to diligent collectors. However this is from a more recent collecting project and the habit of the crystals is noticeably different from the earlier finds. A super choice US thumbnail.

Vanadinite
stock #21.1-207
Western Union Mine, Stockton Hill, Mohave County
Arizona, United States
2.7 x 1.7 x .9 CM (thumbnail)
price: $130
Early summer 2021

Slender stepped Vanadinite crystals on a shard of matrix. Several of the crystals show a form much like a reversed scepter. A nice thumbnail from this less well-known mine in Arizona, the Western Union, (also known as the Western or Black and Tan). The long closed mine yielded some very nice small Vanadinites in several habits in the 1980's to some diligent collectors. However this is from a more recent collecting project and the habit of the crystals is noticeably different from the earlier finds. Choice thumbnail.

Vanadinite
stock #13.1-224
Mibladen Mine, Upper Moulouya lead district, Midelt, Khenifra Province
Meknes-Tafilalet Region, Morocco
4 x 2.4 x 2.7 CM (miniature)
price: $140
new year 2021

Vanadinite crystals with both brilliantly lustrous red faces and some faces that are a mustard color. The form and esthetics are choice and looks fine from several angles. Vanadinite from Morocco has been rather plentiful for the past few years and the costs are still reasonable for such an attractive specie.

Vanadinite on Geothite stalactite
stock #18.1-185
Taouz, Er Rachidia Province,
Meknes-Tafilalet Region, Morocco
6.9 x 2.8 x 1.3 CM (cabinet)
price: $490
Spring 2020

Amazing form and with very bright red color, Vanadinite crystals scattered on slender stalactites or rods of Geothite. A small find in late 2018 produced a few of these with better form and color than usually seen, these are not found very often unlike the well known (but very different) Vanadinites from Mibladen. In fine condition the individual crystals of Vanadinite are on all sides of these "fingers" and can be displayed from any angle. Sharp lustrous and vivid red in person, the contrast with the black Geothite is remarkable and the overall esthetic is impressive. This is a delicate specimen as can be seen, but it can be shipped with some special packaging.

Vanadinite - large hoppered crystal
stock #19.1-853
Mibladen Mine, Upper Moulouya lead district, Midelt, Khenifra Province
Draa-Tafilalet Region, Morocco
3.2 x 2.1 x 2 CM (small miniature/ large thumbnail (toenail))
price: $180

A super sharp geometric sculpture formed by the hoppered faces of this hexagonal crystal. This year there was a major find of very find Vanadinites in Mibladen, probably the best pocket ever found. Large bright red crystals in large numbers were found in several habits, this has an especially esthetic form and is a textbook example of face hoppering. Excellent color with some faces slightly more intense red than others as is typical in this find.

San Carlos Mine, Municipio de Maunuel Benavidas
Chihuahua, Mexico
5.7 x 5.2 x 3.4 CM (cabinet)

This year there was a major find of exceptional Vanadinites at the San Carlos Mine (Chihuahua, Mexico). A small number of superb pieces with great form, color and luster are now considered to be the best Vanadinites ever found in Mexico and for that matter in North America. This is one of those fine pieces with perfect, sharp free standing hexagons and some color zoning. Most of the terminations are flat but a few show minor hoppering. In fine condition overall, the major crystals are all pristine. The area where these were found was quickly mined out and there will be no more. Choice and very attractive, destined to be a highly desirable Mexican classic.

Vanadinite
stock #19.1-300
Mibladen Mine, Upper Moulouya lead district, Midelt, Khenifra Province
Draa-Tafilalet Region, Morocco
4 x 3.4 x 2.2 CM (miniature)
price: $320

Among all the nice Vanadinite that has come from Morocco, a few pieces do stand out as having a next level of color, form or general impact. This is an outstanding miniature with that intense red color, bright luster and sharp, free standing crystals. The overall composition is attractive from almost any angle, there is just a little matrix that adds nice contrast. With the past few years production of Moroccan Vanadinites it is easy to take these for granted, yet they are clearly superb and one of the best values in the mineral market. No damage.
