Cabinet sized matrix specimen covered with a dense mass of lustrous black Neptunite on the display face. A single blue Benitoite is tucked away in the mix so this is really all about the Neptunites. Several crystals are doubly terminated and all contrast well with the white matrix. This is an older piece from the Immer Cook collection, dating to the late 1960 era. Choice piece with the Neptunite well-exposed and displaying very well.
Neptunite on Natrolite
San Benito Peak, San Benito County
5 x 3.7 x 1.8 CM (miniature)
Neptunite crystals with very high luster reaching 2.3 CM are set on contrasting snow white Natrolite. A very attractive specimen in good condition with textbook terminated crystals some of which show doubly terminated prisms well-exposed from the matrix. There will not be any more of these as the locale is finished, this is an older recycled collection specimen.
Great contrast with sharp and lustrous Neptunites against the white Natrolite. Dozens of micro crystals are on board with lots of the rare mineral Joaquinite. The largest Neptunites reach 2 CM and show reddish highlights with good lighting. Most crystals are perfect and terminated, but there is damage to 2 crystals. These could be removed to make a "perfect" specimen but they are not bothersome to me and the overall impact is fine. Older material collected in the 60s.
