An old AE Foote specimen of a thick slab of dark pink to deep red Rhodonite from the famed Yekaterinburg locale. Dating back to the imperial era in Russia, this is polished on one side and has the rich dark color not seen in many modern pieces. The Tephroite is a yellow to brown zone that is also in swirls with Manganese oxides set in the red Rhodonite. The AE Foote Label attached is an unusual format (he had many different labels over his long career, that is likely an 1880 vintage. A nice example of a vintage red Rhodonite not often seen these days.

A complete 2.9 cm crystal of Rhodonite is perched above a smaller 2.3 CM crystal resting on Calcite matrix. Nicely exposed, the Calcite has not been acid "melted" so this is fully natural. An affordable classic specimen with good color, form and in nice condition, these are getting quite hard to find in any decent condition.

A single, brilliant dark red gemmy Rhodonite crystal is exposed in a mass of silvery Galena. The Rhodonite is 2.3 CM across, and has very bright luster. Typical crude but complete edges are undamaged. This is the classic form for Broken hill Rhodonite,but the gemmyness, size and deep color are far better than average.
An intense red crystal 3 CM across sits on a matrix of Galena. Well-exposed, typically rounded and crude but with distinct form with many areas of transparency. The front side displays well with no noticeable damage, there is cleaving on the backside that is not visible. The Galena forms some selective coatings and inclusions as is usual for the locality, this adds a nice contrast. Better in person, a good example from this classic locale, likely mined over 60 years ago. Now quite rare or expensive on the market.
A cluster of five main Rhodonite crystals up to 3.3 CM in size are arranged in an attractive cluster. This is an American classic that has become quite scarce on the market in recent years. The condition is excellent and like most of these had some acid etching to expose the Rhodonite well. The color is well above average and this piece is very 3-dimensional.

Ex Fred Pough and G. Elling collections. A big, complete, dark-red crystal in pristine condition. Translucent with gemmy areas, the rhomb has the classic association of bright silvery Galena on all faces. A classic locale, the best of Broken Hill Rhodonite was unrivaled until the more recent finds in Peru. This is far better than average and with simply super esthetics. These are rarely found on the market today in sizes larger than thumbnails, this is exceptional.
