Hubnerite with Fluorite and Quartz
stock #22.1-607-(YL)
Yaogangxian Mine, Yizhang County, Chenzhou Pref.
Hunan Province, China
5.6 x 5.3 x 2.8 CM (cabinet)
price: $440

Very lustrous sharp Hubnerite crystals with good red highlights set on Quartz with purple Fluorites. A choice multi-specie specimen from the great Yaogangxian Mine. Hubnerite is much more rare from here than the similar Ferberite, and this is a well above average example of the specie. In excellent condition as seen, the crystals are nicely offset by the purple Fluorites, milky Quartz and with a dusting of Pyrite. Displays well, an excellent addition to a Yaogangxian suite or for a Chinese collection.

Hubnerite - well crystalized USA classic
stock #23.1-628
Adams Mine, Silverton, San Juan County
Colorado, United States
6.2 x 5 x 3.7 CM (cabinet)
price: $380
Pre Tucson

Free standing, lustrous and very sharp crystals of Hubnerite from the classic Colorado locality of the Adams Mine. The crystals are translucent to transparent on thin edges, have distinct terminations and a fine copper-red color. This is in quite fine condition as well, the crystals (despite the fragile nature) are nearly all perfect, the few spots of chipping are very small and not easy to spot by naked eye. Most Hubnerite found world-wide tends to be more blocky and usually opaque if of any size. This old mine often had a more slender form typically, these are classic USA specimens and important for any Colorado collection. On a white Andesite matrix with a small amount of Pyrite, the contrast is excellent.

Hubnerite on Quartz
stock #8.1-282
Pasto Bueno District, Pallasca Province
Ancash Department, Peru
9.9 x 7.3 x 3.9 CM (cabinet)
price: $560
New Year 22

A fine modern classic example from the finds over 20 years ago at Pasto Bueno. The Hubnerite crystal is composed of several parallel position crystals that are complete and terminated. This standing cluster is a full 7.5 CM tall. The Hubnerite shows flashes of red under good lighting as is typical of the specie. Perched aesthetically on a spray of Quartz crystals that are also in excellent condition. We need to note there is a small repair on this piece, well-done, and not visible to the naked eye. This keeps the price a good deal lower but has no visible impact on the piece. Looks fine from all sides, an excellent example of the specie.

Hubnerite (exceptional, largest from Yaogangxian!) on Quartz with Helvite
stock #8.1-098
Yaogangxian Mine, Yizhang County, Chenzhou Pref.
Hunan Province, China
12 x 9.5 CM (cabinet)
price: $3600

An important Chinese specimen and a rarity, this Hubnerite is from the one time small find at Yaogangxian in 1998. It seems these are also the largest Hubnerite crystals known from China, at 9.4 CM! Ferberite (the analog) is famous from Yaogangxian, it has produced some of the worlds best. However, verified Hubnerite is only known in a few specimens. The crystals here are attractively perched on a long Quartz prism and this displays well from either side. The color is a lustrous black to a deep brownish-red. Strong lighting shows red translucence on thin edges of the crystals as is typical for Hubnerite. The crystals are complete, somewhat jagged showing parallel growth with full terminations. A dusting of micro Helvites (not confirmed) add a color contrast. Remarkably this specimen has no noticeable damage on the delicate Hubnerite crystals. For any comprehensive Chinese collection or a Yaogangxian suite, this is something really special!
